World Baseball Cup


Daniel Descalso (Memphis) and Team USA had the day off on Saturday and will defend their 2007 World Cup Championship against Cuba on Sunday. The game starts at 8 a.m. CT and will be televised on MLB Network.


The 2007 USA Gold Medal team featured Colby Rasmus, Bryan Anderson, and former Cardinal Chris Perez.  The U.S. knocked off Cuba 6-3 as the games were hosted by Chinese Taipei.

Curt Smith (Palm Beach) started in left field and batted fourth.  1-for-4 with one double.


Australia Beat Netherlands 4-1

Australia finishes fifth place, pushing Netherlands to sixth.



Former Cardinals prospect Yonathan Sivira went 1-for-3 with one RBI, one run, and one sac fly for Venezuela.


Venezeula Beat Chinese Taipei 6-3 to take seventh place.



Former Memphis Redbird Miguel Negron went 1-for-4 with one double for Puerto Rico.


Eduardo Perez's Puerto Rico team lost Canada 6-2

Larry Walker (hitting coach) and Canada earned the bronze medal.



Venezuelan League


Carlos Oraa (VSL) is making a push for a spot in the Aguilas del Zulia bullpen.  He hurled, along with other camp invites, a bullpen session that consisted of 30 pitches.  Next week Oraa and the other candidates will face hitters for the first time: Comandante del Beisbol



Florida Instructional League


Having canceled their instructional league camp, the Cardinals will be missing out on their chance to face off against the 2009 number one overall pick in Nationals' Stephen Strasburg. He will make a couple of Florida appearances this fall before heading off to the Arizona Fall League: Nationals Official Site
