Cardinals Winter Leagues Notebook: 10/16/09

Our daily reports on Cards prospects in winter ball continue. Daryl Jones is the Player of the Day.

Arizona Fall League

 

Daryl Jones (Springfield) started in centerfield and batted leadoff.  2-for-4 with one RBI, two runs, one walk, two stolen bases, one strikeout, and grounded into one double play.

Daniel Descalso (Memphis) started as designated hitter and batted third.  2-for-4 with one RBI, two runs, and one sacrifice.

Tyler Henley (Springfield) started in left field and batted sixth.  1-for-4 with one run, one walk, and grounded into one double play.
Scott Gorgen (Springfield) entered in the seventh and pitched one inning.  Struck out one, hit one batter, and induced two fly outs.  (p-s:15-11)

Adam Reifer (Palm Beach) entered in the ninth and pitched one inning.  He allowed one hit, one earned run, and one walk. (p-s:17-8)(g/f:1-1)

Mexican Pacific League

 

Fernando Salas (Memphis-Hermosillo) entered in the fifth and pitched to two batters.  He struck one out and got the other to ground out for the hold (1).

 

Andy Cavazos (Former St. Louis-Guasave) entered in the seventh and pitched one inning.  He allowed one hit, no runs, and struck out two. (g/f:0-1)

 

Hermosillo shutout Guasave 3-0 in game one of a doubleheader

 

Fernando Salas (Memphis-Hermosillo) entered in the seventh and struck out the only batter he faced.

 

Hermosillo and Guasave ended in a 4-4 tie after 8 innings

Iker Franco (Former Springfield-Obregon) started as designated hitter and batted fourth.  0-for-4 at the plate.

Hugo Castellanos (Former Memphis-Obregon) entered in the seventh and pitched 1.1 innings.  He allowed one hit, no runs, and struck out one. (g/f:1-2)(ir-s:1-0)

Venezuelan League

 

Jon Jay (Memphis-Caracas) started in centerfield and batted leadoff.  1-for-6 with one RBI, one run, and one strikeout.

Orber Moreno (Former Memphis-Caracas) entered in the eighth and pitched one inning.  He allowed one hit, no runs, and struck out two. (g/f:1-0)

 

Javier Brito (Former Memphis-Margarita) entered in the sixth as pinch hitter and took over first base, batting eighth.  0-for-2 with one strikeout.

Kristhiam Linares (Palm Beach-Margarita) entered in the eighth and pitched 1.2 innings.  He allowed three hits, one earned run, and struck out two. (g/f:2-1)(ir-s:2-2)

 

Caracas beat Margarita 13-8

Jose Garcia (Springfield-Aragua) started at second base and moved to shortstop, batting leadoff.  0-for-4 with one hit by pitch, two strikeouts, and one caught stealing.

Frederick Parejo (Quad Cities-Aragua) started in right field and batted ninth  0-for-4 at the plate.

Jose Rada (Johnson City-Aragua) entered in the eight and pitched to two batters.  He allowed only one hit, the game-winning home run earning him the loss (0-1).  (g/f:1-0)(ir-s:1-0)

Marcos Rodriguez (Former Palm Beach-Caribes) entered as a pinch hitter in the tenth inning and struck out.

Johnny Polanco and La Trinidad lost to Rivas 9-4.

Licey visits Escogido @ 7:30 PM AST.

Gigantes visits Aguilas @ 8:00 PM AST.

 

Hector Cardenas (Quad Cities), Elvis Hernandez (Palm Beach), Miguel Tapia (Quad Cities), and Osvaldo Morales (Palm Beach) have all made the Gigantes del Cibao roster and Mark Hamilton (Memphis) is projected to be in the starting lineup manning left field: Gigantes del Cibao Official Site

Begins play on Friday.

 

Francisco Rivera (Palm Beach) is set to play for Brujos de los Tuxtlas.

Alexander Francisco (Former DSL) will pitch for Cafeteros de Cordoba.

Ricardo Rincon (Former St. Louis) will be the pitching coach on the Cafeteros de Cordoba staff.

 

 

Florida Winter Baseball League (October 30)

 

Omar Javier (Former GCL) has signed on to pitch for the Miami Diamantes.

 

Jameson Maj (Former Quad Cities) signed on to pitch for the Lake County Black Bears.
