Luhnow on the Cardinals System: Part Three

The St. Louis Cardinals farm director covers a variety of subjects in the third of four interviews. Segment three includes Jeff Luhnow's take on the 2005 draft class, compensation picks, the loss of Jarrett Hoffpauir and Rule 5 preparations, the status of many injured players and several away from personal reasons.

In Part three of our exclusive interview with St. Louis Cardinals Vice President of Scouting and Player Development Jeff Luhnow, the organization's farm director continues with more detailed information.

A recap of the successful 2005 draft led to a discussion of the tradeoffs of not offering arbitration versus collecting compensation picks and how the scouts will respond if additional selections are gained.

The departure of Jarrett Hoffpauir and the roster preparation for December's Rule 5 Draft was covered next, followed by updates on many players who missed time during the 2009 season due to injury or off-field issues.

Players covered in depth include Mark McCormick, Francisco Samuel, Kyle Mura, Josh Dew, David Kopp, Brett Zawacki, Scott Bittle, Matt Arburr, Shaun Garceau, Matt North and Jose Martinez.
