Cuban League

A year in review of Cuban-decent baseball players: Terreno de Pelota.

Very good read, many interesting MLB and MiLB names mentioned.

International Market Place

Cuban defector Yuniesky Maya's agent said that he threw in the 88-92 mph range in his workout last week.  His agent also said that 28-year old right-hander projects to be a starting pitcher.  Maya has yet to be declared a free agent by the MLB.

Cuban free agent Deinys Suarez is receiving some interest from teams but it is coming slow since he suffered from tendinitis while in Cuba.  The 25-year old right-hander will not only have to pay up to his agent but will also have to fork part of his bonus over to Edgar Mercedes, who represents Wagner Mateo and Michael Ynoa (Athletics), for trainer fees.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed 17-year old Dominican shortstop Ramses Pena for $150,000.
