Dominican Summer League Cardinals Recap

St. Louis Cardinals Director of International Operations Moises Rodriguez discusses top players from the 2009 Dominican Summer League season.

In this second installment of a two-part report, the Cardinals Director of International Operations Moises Rodriguez recaps the season put together in the Dominican Summer League.

The executive responsible for the organization's non-US efforts was extremely generous with his time as we discussed in detail a number of the top prospects on the club that just fell short of the league playoffs and put together the best year of any Cardinals DSL team ever. The interview was held at the conclusion of the 2009 season.

Among the offensive leaders covered are slick-fielding and hard-hitting shortstop Grabiel Hernandez, considered one of the top three shortstops in the 33-team DSL, catcher Luis Perez, first baseman Juan Castillo plus outfielders Oscar Taveras and Jose Pena.

Top pitchers detailed are Jose Pasen, the former outfielder promoted to the Gulf Coast League to extend his season, ace Charllan Jimenez and Haitian Eduard Estalis, both bound for 2010 Extended Spring Training, lefty Keury Herrera and more.
