Catching Up with the MVP: Albert Pujols

Albert Pujols discusses Mark McGwire, his elbow, and his contract status with the St. Louis Cardinals.

All-world hitter Albert Pujols is guaranteed two more years with the St. Louis Cardinals. Including an option year, Pujols is assured of spending 2010 and 2011 patrolling first base at Busch Stadium III. But along with many analysts and fans, the organization is looking ahead and would like to get the best hitter of his generation signed to a contract extension to ensure he is a Cardinal for life.

At the recent annual Winter Warm-Up, Pujols discussed his contract status and the possibility of testing free agency. He also looked back upon his offseason surgery and the health of his elbow.

But first, all the buzz of the weekend centered around "El Hombre's" new hitting coach. First up is a question about the possible return of Jim Edmonds followed by a lot of talk about Big Mac. Toward the end of the segment, the questioning begins to get to the three-time MVP and he seems to close the door on any future McGwire questions.

This segment begins with Pujols sharing his feelings on the long term management situation with the Cardinals. He then gets into why the Cardinal organization is right for him. He discusses the possibility of free agency along with how his current contract compares to those of the top players in the game. Also, for our Spanish speaking readers, Pujols answers a question in his native language for ESPN Deportes.
