Talking Pitching with Adam Wainwright

One of the St. Louis Cardinals aces, Adam Wainwright, shares his thoughts on the rotation and defending Mark McGwire.

St. Louis Cardinal Adam Wainwright came to this year's Winter Warm-Up having come off his most successful campaign as a starting pitcher. The 28-year-old led the National League with 19 victories while posting an ERA of 2.63.

The 6-foot-7 right-hander finished third in the Cy Young voting behind winner Tim Lincecum and teammate Chris Carpenter.

Wainwright did take home the NL Most Outstanding Pitcher Award along with winning his first Gold Glove.

Wainwright's questioning starts with his defending of Mark McGwire a couple of weeks ago. "Waino" had defended Big Mac because he had not admitted anything. Now that he has, the questioner wanted to know if he still defended the team's hitting coach. Wainwright has an interesting response. He goes on to discuss his workload and the strength of the team's rotation.

Wainwright begins this segment discussing the loss of Joel Pineiro before getting into the chances of Kyle McClellan earning the fifth starter's role on the 2010 squad.
