Talking Cards Prospects: Garcia and Jones

St. Louis Cardinals prospects Jaime Garcia and Daryl Jones discuss the upcoming 2010 season.

As the St. Louis Cardinals are gearing up for the 2010 season, two players that ranked in The Cardinal Nation's Top 5 prospects have an opportunity to see time with the big team. Jaime Garcia and Daryl Jones are both coming off injury riddled seasons that slowed their progression last season but both should have at least an opportunity to fill the holes that open in St. Louis.

Garcia bounced back strongly from Tommy John surgery at the end of 2009. Our number one Cardinals prospect helped lead the Memphis affiliate to its second Pacific Coast League title, showing fantastic feel for his secondary pitching, rare when coming off this surgery. It is known that both Dave Duncan and Tony La Russa want to limit his workload but he should come to camp to compete for the fifth spot in the rotation.

Jones, our fifth-ranked prospect, suffered through multiple leg injuries that slowed his progress after a breakout 2008 campaign. The former third round pick offers speed and a left-handed bat, both assets La Russa would like to have on his bench. As of today, the Cardinals do not have a lefty bat with any big league experience in the organization excluding starting centerfielder Colby Rasmus.

Both took time to speak to the media at the Cardinals recent Winter Warm-Up.

And of course, the first question focused on Garcia's elbow.
