Mexican Pacific League Championship


Hermosillo beat Mazatlan 1-0

Hermosillo won their 15th Championship, taking the series 4-3, and first since the 2006-07 season. (above link)



Colombian League Championship


Barranquilla beat Monteria 9-1: Team Renteria Post Game and El Heraldo Post Game

Donovan Solano (Memphis-Barranquilla) connected for a triple in the eighth inning.


Barranquilla wins the Colombian League Championship taking the series 4-2 over Monteria.


Mark Shorey (Memphis-Barranquilla) was named MVP of the Finals after he went 8-for-19 (.421) with four doubles, one home run, and eight RBIs during the six games.  In the sixth game Shorey had two hits with one double, three RBIs, one run, and one walk.

Azul beat Rojo in the All-Star game 8-6 on January 23rd

Centerfielder Joel Araujo and pitcher Rafael DePaula were named Players of the Game: DPL Official Site


Keep an eye on many of these players as quite a few are rumored to have teams scouting and even talking to them about contracts for the 2010 season.  The bonus of the league is that all the background checks are already done and are available for any team to view.



2010 Caribbean Series In Margarita, Venezuela


Escogido celebrated their championship win with a parade for the fans: Listin Diario


Caracas reported they will bring along 10 reinforcements to the Caribbean Series, one which will be Jason Simantacchi (Former St. Louis-Lara/Magallanes): Comandante del Beisbol


Hermosillo announced that they will bring 11 reinforcements to the Caribbean Series: LMP Official Site


Tuesday's Opening Round:

Mayaguez (Puerto Rico) visits Escogido (Dominican) @ 3:00 PM VST.

Hermosillo (Mexico) visits Caracas (Venezuela) @ 8:00 PM VST.



Korean Baseball (KBO)


Ricardo Rodriguez (Former Memphis) signed with KIA Tigers.  Rodriguez had pitched for Escogido in the Dominican League.


Les Walrond (Former Memphis) and Kelvin Jimenez (Former St. Louis) signed with Doosan.  Walrond was loaned last season to the Yokohoma Bay Stars of the Nippon Professional Baseball League by the Toronto Blue Jays.  Last winter Walrond pitched for Magallanes in the Venezuelan League.  Jimenez pitched for both Estrellas in the Dominican League and Margarita in the Venezuelan League during the winter.

The Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Tampa Bay Rays, San Francisco Giants, and Seattle Mariners have all sent scouts to watch Cuban defector Jose Julio Ruiz: Terreno de Pelota


ESPN's Jorge Arangure thinks that Ruiz could sign sometime this week.


Chicago White Sox MLB beat writer Scott Merkin answered a question on Cuban defector Yuniesky Maya, in his latest inbox, saying the team had scouted Maya but has backed out now that they signed J.J. Putz to a contract for the 2010 season.



Hot Stove


Pedro Martinez (Phillies Free Agent) still thinks he has another year in him and hopes to sign with a team for the 2010 season.  Martinez said he is currently in negotiations with the Philadelphia Phillies.  Some speculate that he would get a deal somewhat like Brad Penny signed with the Cardinals.  He also commented on the steroid hype around Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa: Primera Hora


Josh Pressley (Former Springfield) will be one of 21 players (scroll down) that will take part in the Professional Free Agent Showcase at Al Lang Field in St. Petersburg, FL between February 2-4.  Pressley played earlier in the winter with Estrellas in the Dominican League before being released for lack of performance.
