Cardinals Minors Early Spring Games Rosters

Four working rosters evolve into five team rosters as St. Louis Cardinals minor leaguers begin play.

With the start of official minor league games on the back fields of Jupiter, Florida's Roger Dean Stadium, the St. Louis Cardinals player development staff has evolved from the four working groups in early workouts to the five spring rosters along with a shrinking rehab group. 165 players are listed below with more coming in the next few days from major league camp.

Because of the magnitude of the shifts, I felt it was worthy of a post.

Roster moves since last report

  • Four working groups moved onto five team rosters
  • Starters and relievers split out at each level
  • Seven of ten pitchers off the rehab program and onto teams
  • Catcher Audry Perez moved into rehab group. Update: He suffered an hamate bone fracture in his hand, so will be out some time. Tough luck for Perez.
  • First baseman Andrew Brown moved to Springfield infield. Update: My suspicion was correct as Brown will see time at third base, though at this point, the move is not permanent.
  • Second baseman Alex Castellanos moved to Palm Beach outfield. Update: Same as Brown. Trying out a new position.

Extra games added

The Cardinals have scheduled two more home games for the Quad Cities #2 team against traveling squads. They are in addition to the earlier-announced game against the Long Island Storm. All three opponents have faced the Cardinals in previous springs.

The games are as follows:

  • March 19 vs. Long Island Storm
  • March 23 vs. Gildea's Raiders
  • March 25 vs. WFAST

They have also been added to the master Cardinals minor league spring training schedule listed here.

Daily minor league game recaps

Again this spring, I am running recaps of each day's minor league games at my blog, TheCardinalNationBlog.com. Game results, player highlights and photos are provided each evening covering that afternoon's results along with a look ahead to the next day.
