Baseball Business

 

The MLB is exploring the idea of having two teams play spring training games in Europe in the near future.  Italy seems to be the most reasonable when it comes to weather during the early spring months.  Sports Illustrated

Independent Market Place

The market place is expected to pick up for Cuban pitcher Yuniesky Maya with spring camps breaking.  Past rumors have the Boston Red Sox as the front runners.  El Nuevo Herald

The Atlanta Braves signed left fielder Deion Galvan and catcher Roberto Machado, both from the Tenerife Marlins in the Spanish League.  Spanish League Official Site

The Oakland Athletics are rumored to have signed Taiwan infielder Chih-Fang PanTaiwan Baseball

 

The San Francisco Giants signed Cuban right-handed pitcher Reiner Roibal ($450,000 bonus), while the Tampa Bay Rays inked Cuban pitcher Sergio Espinosa ($100,000 bonus) to a deal.  Jorge Ebro Twitter

Vladimir Nunez (Former Memphis) signed a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves.  Nunez pitched for Lara in the Venezuelan League this past winter. 

 

Jonathan Sivira (Former Quad Cities) homered to help Venezuela top Colombia and win the 2010 South American Games.  Baseball World

 

Olmecas de Tabasco of the Triple-A Mexican League signed Joe Rogers (Former Memphis) to a contract for the 2010 season.  Rogers pitched for Cosamoloapan in the Vercruz Instructional League (Mexico) this past winter. 

 

Juan Acevedo (Former St. Louis) has landed in jail for violating financial terms in a divorce case.  The judge of the case will not release him at this time, even though he may be able to land a job in the Triple-A Mexican League.  Daily Herald

 

Ricardo Rodriguez (Former Memphis) was handed a ten-game suspension for the use of performance enhancing drugs.  He was set to pitch for KIA in the Korean Baseball Organization and may have been released.  True Stories of Korean Baseball

 

Kelvin Jimenez (Former St. Louis) pitched six innings allowing four hits, two runs, two walks, and struck out three for his second winning decision in his second start for Doosan of the KBO.  True Stories of Korean Baseball

Juan Mosquera (Former GCL) Playing For Panama Metro in the Panama League Playoffs:

Mar. 29: Started at shortstop and batted ninth.  1-for-3 with two runs.

Mar. 30: Started at shortstop and batted leadoff.  1-for-3 with one run.

Apr. 3: Entered late in the game at third base.  1-for-1 with one RBI and one error.

Apr. 4: Started at shortstop and batted second.  0-for-3 and one error.

 

Carlos Gonzalez (Former Johnson City) Pitching For Panama Metro in the Panama League Playoffs:

Apr. 4: Entered in the sixth and pitched one inning.  He allowed one hit, two earned runs, one home run, two walks, and struck out one.

 

Panama Metro is 6-7 and has qualified for the next round in the Panama Metro Playoffs.

 

Edgard Montiel (Former DSL) has played in 11 games going 9-for-28 (.321) with two doubles, five RBIs, two runs, two walks, three strikeouts, and two errors as of March 30th.  Managua is currently 16-16 and tied for third place in the Nicaraguan National Championship Group B Division.

 

Ivan Bellazetin (Former MiLB Spring Invite) has played in 11 games going 7-for-31 (.226) with one double, two RBIs, eight total bases, five runs, six strikeouts, .226 OBP, .258 SLG, and .484 OPS.  Minatitlan is 5-12 and tied for seventh in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.

 

Hugo Castellanos (Former Memphis) has made 11 relief appearances posting an 0-2 record and 3.18 ERA.  He's allowed ten hits, five runs (four earned), one home run, two walks, and struck out five over 11.1 innings.  Monterrey is 9-8 and in third place in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.

 

Iker Franco (Former Springfield) has played in 16 games going 11-for-62 (.177) with three doubles, two home runs, nine RBIs, 20 total bases, seven runs, 17 strikeouts, one caught stealing, .261 OBP, .323 SLG, and .583 OPS.  Quintana Roo is 9-8 and in fourth place in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.

 

D'Angelo Jimenez (Former Memphis) has played in 16 games going 17-for-58 (.293) with three doubles, one triple, two home runs, eight RBIs, 28 total bases, 14 runs, 12 walks, six strikeouts, one caught stealing, .414 OBP, .483 SLG, and .897 OPS.  Yucatan is 10-7 and in third place in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.

 

Matt Perisho (Former Memphis) had made three appearances (one start) posting an 0-1 record and 17.18 ERA.  He allowed 12 hits, seven earned runs, and struck out three over 3.2 innings.  He was released by Tabasco on April 2nd.

 

John Rodriguez (Former St. Louis) has played in 17 games going 12-for-66 (.182) with five doubles, one triple, two home runs, seven RBIs, 25 total bases, ten runs, six walks, eight strikeouts, .280 OBP, .379 SLG, and .659 OPS.  Veracruz is 8-9 and in fifth place in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.

 

Nerio Rodriguez (Former St. Louis) has made four starts posting a 2-2 record and 4.18 ERA.  He's allowed 23 hits, 12 runs (11 earned), two home runs, six walks, and struck out 15 over 23.2 innings.  Monclova is 6-11 and tied for seventh place in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.
