Cardinals Minor League Risers and Fallers

Players moving up and down in the St. Louis Cardinals minor league system to open the 2010 season.

As the St. Louis Cardinals finalize their season-opening minor league rosters in preparation for Thursday night's first games, a number of players are taking up temporary residence in new locations for 2010. In other cases, players are returning to a former club.

The reasons for moving up are many-fold, from strong spring training performances to open opportunity above to the system pushing a player to deliver or face the consequences. Sometimes, the opposite happens and a player has to take a step back, either for his own good or for the organization. I should note that my use of the terms "rising" and "falling" are a reflection of a point in time, not an overall assessment of these young men's careers.

While the following list is not complete, it reflects recent changes documented on the website. Those noted as "risers" have achieved their new level for the first time, while "fallers" have previously seen time at a higher level of play.

To view current Cardinals rosters at every level of the system, simply click on "Minor League Rosters" on the red bar at the top of the page. Click on any player's name here in this article or on the roster pages to be taken to an individual player's profile page, where a wealth of information awaits.

In addition, on, I continue to maintain the Cardinals Organization Roster Matrix, a one-page view of the entire system from top to bottom, organized by level and position. Make sure you check it out!
