Current Cardinals


St. Louis Cardinals offseason Venezuelan free agent signing and catcher Jose Gomez signed on to play for Aguilas del Zulia in the Venezuelan League.  Zulia also landed Andy Parra (Marlins) and Jose Lopez (Yankees).  Comandante del Beisbol


Ramon Ulacio (VSL) is a member of Tiburones de La Guaira organization, in the Venezuelan League.  Yhorman Vasquez (Former VSL Cardinals tryout) looks to have signed a deal with the Kansas City Royals and was assigned to the Dominican Summer League.  La Guaira Official Site



Baseball Business


Dominicans protested outside where MLB officials and Dominican government were meeting earlier in the past week.  Buscones (Dominican trainers/agents) are concerned they will be squeezed out if the MLB institutes an international draft.  Listin Diario



International Market Place


Sports Illustrated's Melissa Segura tweets that the Diamondbacks and Wagner Mateo may be close to a deal.  AZ Republic Diamondbacks beat writer Nick Piecoro later tweeted that there has been nothing going on between the two.


The Minnesota Twins have interest in Dominican centerfielder Vicmal De La Cruz.  He will be available to sign after July 2, 2010.


The San Diego Padres could be on the verge of signing Dominican Duanel Jones, tweets Segura.  If anything is going on between Jones and the Padres, nothing is in the works just yet says Padres' MLB beat writer Corey Brock.  Jones had signed a deal with the San Francisco Giants earlier in the year but that was voided due to a failed drug test.  It is still unclear whether this will be a 50-game suspension by the MLB or just a team requirement test.  The St. Louis Cardinals had past interest in signing Jones, but backed off after his price rose out of their range.


Right-handed Taiwan pitcher Min-Tzu Chen is out of action for the time being after having inflammation in his elbow.  The Cardinals have been rumored to have interest in Chen.  Taiwan Baseball Blogspot

The Dominican Prospect League held their second All-Star game: Boxscore


Pablo Peguero will replace Candy Maldonado as Gigantes del Cibao general manager.  Peguero is currently one of the heads of the San Francisco Giants Dominican AcademyEmmanuel Burris (Giants) has interest in playing in the league this coming winter.  Listin Diario

Former Cardinals


Raul Gonzalez (Former Memphis) has signed with the Piratas de Campeche in the Triple-A Mexican League.  MiLB Official Site  Gonzalez began the winter season playing for Ponce and later moved on to man the outfield for Gigantes, both teams in the Puerto Rican League.


Jolbert Cabrera (Former Memphis) has signed with Guerreros de Oaxaca in the Triple-A Mexican League.  MiLB Official Site  Cabrera was released by the New York Mets after MLB spring camp.


Dennys Abreu (Former Tennessee), Juan Lucena (Former Springfield), Wladimir Medoza (Former Johnson City), and Jonathan Sivira (Former Quad Cities) are all currently playing in the Beisbol Tradicional Caroreno.  Comandante del Beisbol  This past week, Abreu signed on to play for St. Louis Cardinals Latin scout and Bravos de Margarita (Venezuelan League) general manager Enrique Brito with the Tijuana Cimarrones of the independent Golden Baseball League.

Kelvin Jimenez (Former St Louis) was handed a no decision in his latest start for Doosan in the KBO.  He allowed six hits, five runs, three walks, hit two batters, and struck out four.  True Stories of Korean Baseball


Neil Allen (Former St. Louis) has been named Navagantes del Magallanes pitching coach in the Venezuelan League.  He currently the pitching coach for the Charlotte Stone Crabs, an A-Advanced affiliate for the Tampa Bay Rays.  Comandante del Beisbol


Olmecas de Tabasco of the Triple-A Mexican League has signed Reggie Taylor (Former Memphis) and, to make room on the roster, they released Joe Rogers (Former Memphis).  Rogers made five appearances (four starts) posting a 1-3 record, one shutout, and 3.90 ERA.  He allowed 28 hits, 13 runs (12 earned), one home run, seven walks, and struck out 17 over 27.2 innings. 


Juan Richardson (Former Springfield) signed a 2010 contract with the Lincoln Saltdogs of the independent American Association.  Richardson played for Estrellas in the Dominican League over the winter.


Mike Smith (Former Memphis) signed a 2010 contract with the Brockton Rox of the independent Can-Am League.  Smith pitched for Arecibo of the Puerto Rican League during the winter.


Edgard Montiel (Former DSL) has played in 15 games going 13-for-41 (.317) with three doubles, nine RBIs, six runs, six walks, four strikeouts, and three errors as of April 12th.  Managua is 23-19 and tied for second in the Nicaraguan National Championship Group B Division.


Fabian Marquez (Former Johnson City) has made five appearances (four starts) posting an 0-4 record and 6.43 ERA.  He's allowed 26 hits, 24 runs (15 earned), 22 walks, and struck out 23 over 21 innings.  The C.B. Viladecans are 5-9 and tied for seventh in the Spanish Baseball League.


So Taguchi (Former St. Louis) has played in 15 games going 14-for-46 (.304) with four doubles, one home run, three RBIs, 21 total bases, seven runs, one stolen base, one walk, and ten strikeouts.  Orix is 11-11 and fourth in the NPB Pacific Division.


Edgar Gonzalez (Former Springfield) has played in 19 games going 13-for-55 (.236) with two doubles, three RBIs, 15 total bases, three runs, eight walks, and 19 strikeouts.  Yomiuri is 12-8 and first in the NPB Central Division.


Brian Falkenborg (Former St. Louis) has made nine appearances posting a 1-1 record and 0.90 ERA.  He's allowed six hits, three runs (one earned), two walks, and struck out 16 over ten innings.  Softbank is 13-11 and third in the NPB Pacific Division.


Ivan Bellazetin (Former MiLB Spring Invite) has played in 19 games going 7-for-36 (.194) with one double, three RBIs, eight total bases, six runs, one walk, one stolen base, eight strikeouts, .216 OBP, .222 SLG, and .438 OPS.  Minatitlan is 12-17 and sixth in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.


Hugo Castellanos (Former Memphis) has made 18 relief appearances posting a 1-3 record and 3.45 ERA.  He's allowed 15 hits, seven runs (six earned), one home run, five walks, and struck out eight over 15.2 innings.  Monterrey is 18-11 and tied for first in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.


Iker Franco (Former Springfield) has played in 26 games going 22-for-98 (.224) with three doubles, two home runs, 12 RBIs, 31 total bases, nine runs, 12 walks, 23 strikeouts, one caught stealing, .306 OBP, .316 SLG, and .623 OPS.  Quintana Roo is 15-12 and third in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.


D'Angelo Jimenez (Former Memphis) has played in 26 games going 31-for-90 (.344) with five doubles, one triple, three home runs, 13 RBIs, 47 total bases, 21 runs, 21 walks, 11 strikeouts, one caught stealing, .468 OBP, .522 SLG, and .991 OPS.  Yucatan is 18-11 and second in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.


Ricardo Rincon (Former St. Louis) has made six starts posting a 3-3 record and 5.52 ERA.  He's allowed 32 hits, 18 earned runs, two home runs, 16 walks, and struck out 17 over 29.1 innings.  See Bellazetin for team record.


John Rodriguez (Former St. Louis) has played in 28 games going 23-for-102 (.225) with nine doubles, one triple, four home runs, 13 RBIs, 46 total bases, 18 runs, 12 walks, one stolen base, 13 strikeouts, two caught stealing, .328 OBP, .451 SLG, .779 OPS.  Veracruz is 14-14 and fifth in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.


Nerio Rodriguez (Former St. Louis) has made six starts posting a 4-2 record and 3.65 ERA.  He's allowed 35 hits, 16 runs (15 earned), three home runs, ten walks, and struck out 34 over 37 innings.  Monclova is 10-19 and eighth in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.

Esteban Yan (Former St. Louis) has made four appearances (one start) posting a 1-0 record and 6.75 ERA.  He's allowed 13 hits, seven earned runs, three home runs, three walks, and struck out nine over 9.1 innings.  Mexico is 18-11 and tied for first in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.
