Other Organizations' Prospects


San Francisco Gate's Oakland Athletics beat writer Susan Slusser reports the Oakland Athletics signed 19-year old Mexican right-handed pitcher Andres Avila, 17-year old Mexican shortstop Hiram Martinez, 17-year old Dominican catcher Rodolfo Penalo, 17-year old Venezuelan catcher Dionicio Ramirez, and 19-year old Taiwan shortstop Chih-Fang Pan.  Penalo played for Los Patriotas del Centro in the Dominican Prospect League. 


The Atlanta Braves signed Spanish catcher Victor Velazquez, who was playing in the Tenerife Baseball AcademyBaseball World


The San Diego Padres signed Dominican third baseman Duanel Jones for $900,000.  He will in fact have to serve a 50-game suspension after failing a drug test taken while signed with the San Francisco Giants.  Baseball America



International Free Agent Market


Centerfielder Juan Carlos Linares, right-handed pitcher Reinier Casanova, right-handed pitcher Felix Fuentes, and right-handed pitcher Cesar Lopez, all Cubans, impressed at their latest workout for scouts at the New York Yankees Dominican complex.  Terreno de Pelotta


AZ Central's Arizona Diamondbacks beat writer Nick Piecoro reports the D-Backs organization and Dominican outfielder Wagner Mateo are close to signing a deal.  MLB Trade Rumors contributor Blake Bentley said the team and Mateo had a deal in place, then Piecoro shot that down hours later.  If they agree on a contract it will fall to around $512,000.  Nothing is finalized at the time of this report.


Right-handed pitcher Israel Soto, catcher Adalberto Ibarra, centerfielder Luis Fonseca, and outfielder Felix Perez, all Cubans, received good reviews by scouts from their most recent workout.  Cuban Ball Players  Ibarra could be close to a deal with the Boston Red Sox, according to Qbano34.


Rumors are slowly coming out that the Atlanta Braves may be close to signing Cuban outfielder Yasser Gomez.  Gomez played for Estrellas in the Dominican League and later was drafted by Escogido for the playoffs this past winter.



Dominican League


Rafael Landestoy, Al Pedrique and Dave Clark are all being considered for the vacant Tigres del Licey manager position.  Pedrique serves as bench coach for the Houston Astros and also managed in the Astros minor leagues.  Pedrique has also managed Navagantes del Magallanes in the Venezuelan League.  Clark currently manages the Astros.  Listin Diario


Sandy Alderson met with the Dominican government and the buscones (Dominican trainers/scouts) this past Thursday.  He stated he wants to fix and change all the corruption that has been going on in the free agent signing business.  Edgar Mercedes (Wagner Mateo's agent) said many of the buscones are concerned about their future jobs.  Yahoo


Major League Baseball has canceled the Dominican Prospect League's games at the San Francisco Giants' Complex.  This all comes as part of the takeover of how things are being run in the Dominican RepublicDominican Prospect League Official Site



Venezuelan League


The Bravos de Margarita of the Venezuelan League sent Maicer Izturis (Angels), Rayner Olmedo (Brewers), and Alex Serrano to the Tiburones de La Guaira for Ronald Belisario, Wilmer Flores (Mets), Manuel Pina (Royals), and Jose Sayegh (Athletics). El Universal


Aguilas del Zulia have signed Cleveland Indians prospect Manuel Alejandro Boscan Guerrero to play for the organization.  Comandante del Beisbol

Colombian League


The Tigres de Cartagena have worked out a deal to bring in players from the New York Yankees organization next winter.  The New York Mets, Florida Marlins, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, and Cincinnati Reds have also been contacted by various teams in the league.  Barranquilla reported increased revenue with the deal signed with the St. Louis Cardinals and this partnership will continue into next season.  The league will begin play on October 22.  Team Renteria


The Toros will move from Sincelejo to Cali, due to sponsorship funds.  Aguilas de Bogota are in talks with the New York Mets and Florida Marlins to bring in prospects from those two organizations to play in ColombiaTeam Renteria



Australian League


With the help of Major League Baseball, the Australian League will begin play in November.  The league is hoping to sway MLB veterans into playing this coming winter.  The Roar



Former Cardinals


The Orix Buffaloes have placed So Taguchi (Former St. Louis) on the inactive list with a hamstring injury.  Japan Ball  Taguchi has played in 16 games going 15-for-50 (.300) with four doubles, one home run, 22 total bases, eight runs, one stolen base, two walks, and 11 strikeouts.  Orix is 14-14 and fourth in the NPB Pacific League.


The Dorados de Chihuahua of the Triple-A Mexican League have signed Orber Moreno (Former Memphis) to a contract for the 2010 season.  Moreno had signed with the Chicago White Sox after trying out for Chihuahua in spring camp.  The team invited him back if he didn't make the cut with the White Sox.


The Broncos de Reynosa of the Triple-A Mexican League signed Kit Pellow (Former MLB Spring Invite) to a contract for the 2010 season.


The Florida Marlins signed Jorge Sosa (Former St. Louis) to a minor league contract.  He was released by the Boston Red Sox after not making the cut in spring camp.  Sosa impressed well enough pitching for Tigres del Licey of the Dominican League to warrant a minor league deal from the Red Sox.


The Petroleros de Minatitlan of the Triple-A Mexican League signed Joe Rogers (Former Memphis) to a contract for the 2010 season.  Rogers was released by Tabasco a couple f weeks ago.


The Rojos del Aguila de Veracruz of the Triple-A Mexican League released John Rodriguez (Former St. Louis).  He played in 31 games going 26-for-114 (.228) with nine doubles, one triple, four home runs, 15 RBIs, 49 total bases, 20 runs, 14 walks, two stolen bases, 15 strikeouts, two caught stealing, .331 OBP, .430 SLG, and .761 OPS.


Kelvin Jimenez (Former St. Louis) pitched seven innings allowing six hits, two runs, three walks, and struck out one for his fourth winning decision for Doosan in the Korean Baseball Organization.  True Stories Of Korean Baseball


Juan Mosquera (Former GCL) entered late in the game (April 24) and went 0-for-1 at the plate.  Carlos Gonzalez (Former Johnson City) entered in the fourth (April 24) and pitched three innings.  Gonzalez allowed three hits, three earned runs, one home run, four walks, and struck one out.  Panama Metro is 1-2 in the second round of the Panama League Playoffs.


Edgard Montiel (Former DSL) has played in 18 games going 15-for-52 (.288) with three doubles, 11 RBIs, six runs, eight walks, five strikeouts, and five errors.  Managua is 27-19 and in first place in the Nicaraguan National Championship Group B Division.


Fabian Marquez (Former Johnson City) has made six appearances (five starts) posting an 0-5 record and 6.59 ERA.  He's allowed 30 hits, 29 runs (20 earned), 29 walks, hit eight batters, and struck out 30 over 27.1 innings.  The CB Viladecans are 6-10 and are in seventh place in the Spanish League.


Gary Burnham (Former Memphis) has played in 12 games going 13-for-37 (.351) with one double, five RBIs, 14 total bases, five runs, 12 walks, one strikeout, .378 SLG, and .520 OBP.  Godo is 2-10 and tied for seventh place in the Italian Baseball League.


Ivanon Coffie (Former Memphis) has played in nine games going 7-for-36 (.194) with one home run, six RBIs, ten total bases, three runs, one walk, five strikeouts, .278 SLG, and .216 OBP.  Grosseto is 5-7 and fifth in the Italian Baseball League.


Edgar Gonzalez (Former Springfield) has played in 21 games going 13-for-60 (.217) with two doubles, 15 total bases, three RBIs, three runs, nine walks, and 20 strikeouts.  Yomiuri is 17-8 and in first in the NPB Central League.

Brian Falkenborg (Former St. Louis) has made 12 relief appearances posting a 1-1 record and 0.68 ERA.  He's allowed seven hits, three runs (one earned), two walks, and struck out 19 over 13.1 innings.  Softbank is 16-14 and third in the NPB Pacific League.


Tomo Ohka (Former Memphis) has made two appearances posting an 0-0 record and 1.13 ERA.  He's allowed nine hits, one earned run, two walks, and struck out five over eight innings.  Shonan is 11-6 and second in the NPB Eastern League (Minor Leagues).


Ivan Bellazetin (Former MiLB Spring Invite) has played in 24 games going 12-for-50 (.240) with one double, four RBIs, 13 total bases, ten runs, one walk, one stolen base, ten strikeouts, .255 OBP, .260 SLG, and .515 OPS.  Minatitlan is 14-20 and sixth in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.


Jolbert Cabera (Former Memphis) has played 13 games going 20-for-49 (.408) with four doubles, one triple, one home run, seven RBIs, 29 total bases, 12 runs, nine walks, two stolen bases, four strikeouts, .500 OBP, .592 SLG, and 1.092 OPS.  Oaxaca is 18-16 and third in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.


Hugo Castellanos (Former Memphis) has made 20 relief appearances posting a 1-3 record and 3.24 ERA.  He's allowed 17 hits, seven runs (six earned), one home run, five walks, and struck out nine over 16.2 innings.  Monterrey is 22-13 and first in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division. 


Iker Franco (Former Springfield) has played in 31 games going 26-for-118 (.220) with four doubles, two home runs, 15 RBIs, 36 total bases, 11 runs, 14 walks, 25 strikeouts, one caught stealing, .301 OBP, .305 SLG, and .606 OPS.  Quintana Roo is 17-16 and fourth in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.


Raul Gonzalez (Former Memphis) has played in 14 games going 19-for-50 (.380) with four doubles, one triple, four home runs, 13 RBIs, 37 total bases, 14 runs, ten walks, one stolen base, seven strikeouts, .483 OBP, .740 SLG, and 1.223 OPS.  Campeche is 12-23 and seventh in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.


D'Angelo Jimenez (Former Memphis) has played in 32 games going 34-for-109 (.312) with five doubles, one triple, three home runs, 15 RBIs, 50 total bases, 23 runs, 28 walks, 17 strikeouts, three caught stealing, .453 OBP, .459 SLG, and .911 OPS.  Yucatan is 22-13 and second in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.


Ricardo Rincon (Former St. Louis) has made seven starts posting a 3-3 record and 6.35 ERA.  He's allowed 38 hits, 24 earned runs, three home runs, 20 walks, and struck out 23 over 34 innings.  Minatitlan is 14-20 and sixth in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.


Nerio Rodriguez (Former St. Louis) has made seven starts posting a 4-3 record and 3.68 ERA.  He's allowed 40 hits, 20 runs (18 earned), four home runs, 13 walks, and struck out 39 over 44 innings.  Monclova is 11-23 and eighth in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.


Reggie Taylor (Former Memphis) has played in nine games going 9-for-36 (.250) with two doubles, one home run, two RBIs, 14 total bases, four runs, five walks, two stolen bases, seven strikeouts, one caught stealing, .357 OBP, .389 SLG, and .746 OPS.  Tabasco is 11-23 and eighth in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.


Esteban Yan (Former St. Louis) has made eight appearances (one start) posting a 2-1 record, 6.08 ERA, and one save.  He's allowed 16 hits, 11 runs (nine earned), four home runs, four walks, and struck out 11 over 13.1 innings.  Mexico is 20-15 and third in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.
