Cardinals Minor League Notebook: 05/03/10

Springfield's Curt Smith is Sunday's Player of the Day as the clubs went 1-2. Palm Beach collected the only win - in walkoff fashion.

The die was cast early as the visitors scored
four times in the first inning before starter Gary Daley Jr. could record an out. Curt Smith homered twice and drove in all four Springfield runs in the losing effort, the Cardinals' fourth straight.

The Cardinals scored single runs in each of the final three innings for the comeback win. Domnit Bolivar had the walk-off game-winning RBI single. Palm Beach hitters stranded 14 baserunners. Starter Richard Castillo allowed nine baserunners in five innings, but just two runs.

Starter Shelby Miller allowed two runs in a career-long 5 1/3 innings. The River Bandits had a two-run lead heading into the ninth, but in a full team collapse, allowed four runs, only one earned, on three hits and three errors. Newcomer Jason Novak took the loss.
