Cardinals Minor League Notebook: 05/17/10

The system went a perfect 4-0 on Sunday as D'Marcus Ingram slapped two triples to lead Quad Cities.

Amaury Cazana led off the eighth inning with a solo home run to left-center field. P.J. Walters took a no-decision after seven scoreless. Rich Hill picked up the win with one inning of relief work and Fernando Salas worked around a single in the ninth to earn his fifth save. The Redbirds managed just three hits and no Memphis baserunner made it past second other than Cazana. It was Memphis' second shutout of the season and enabled them to return to .500.

After dropping to .500, Springfield swept their four-game series with nemesis Northwest Arkansas, but just barely. After leading 8-0 behind David Kopp, who lowered his ERA to 2.77, the pen faltered. Blake King gave up five and Matt Meyer one. Up 10-6, Thomas Eager left the game with two out and two on in the ninth. Eduardo Sanchez served up a three-run home run then fanned the next batter to lock down his ninth save of the season.

Around a two-hour rain delay, the Cardinals hung five runs, four earned on rehabbing Brewers major leaguer David Riske. Palm Beach starter Brian Broderick yielded just one run in five innings to get the win, which kept the Cardinals in a first-place tie in the Florida State League South.

The River Bandits plated four runs in the seventh inning to lead them over the Kane County Cougars in the series finale on Sunday. The win moved the Bandits back into a tie with the Beloit Snappers for first place in the Midwest League's Western Division and it earned them a split in the four-game set.
