Latin Baseball Hall Of Fame


On May 29th, the Latin Baseball Hall of Fame will open in the Domincan Republic.  25 will be inducted in the inaugural year.  Baseball World

The Houston Astros signed switch hitting shortstop Jean Carlos Batista, who was playing for Los Potros del Este in the Dominican Prospect League.  Dominican Prospect League Official Site


The Arizona Diamondbacks resigned Socrates Brito after having his first contract voided due to a failed drug test.  Melissa Segura Twitter

International Free Agent Market


ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Toronto Blue Jays are close to a deal that would land them Venezuelan right-handed pitcher Adonis Cardona.  Key here is Cardona is not available to sign until after the July 2, 2010 deadline.  MLB Fanhouse's Frankie Piliere tweeted that Cardona will most likely sign for $2.8 million.  A handful of MLB clubs are upset with the rumors coming out about the signing and have filed complaints with the commissioner's office.


Cuban right-handed pitcher Yuniesky Maya has been ruled a major league free agent, but still awaits word from the OFAC on clearance to enter the country.  Qbano34 Twitter  The Toronto Star's Morgan Campbell tweeted that Maya is close to being unblocked.


Korean pitcher Han Sung-Hyuk has hired Scott Boras to represent him.  He's said to be one of the top high school prospects that will be available for the July 2, 2010 signing period.  My World Baseball


More early offers on the table....the Cleveland Indians have reportedly offered Dominican outfielder Vicmal De La Cruz a seven-figure dollar amount.  The Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres, Minnesota Twins, Cincinnati Reds, and Chicago Cubs have all shown interest in Dominican shortstop Martin Steylon Peguero.  And Dominican outfielder Wilmer Romero has enough to possibly sign for a seven-figure deal.  MLB Trade Rumors


ESPN's Jorge Arangure reports the Cincinnati Reds have signed Cuban outfielder Felix Perez with a bonus of $550,000 and he could be assigned to Double-A.  Reds general manager Walt Jocketty says there is no deal in place at this time and that the Reds are one of a few teams interested in Perez.  Perez originally signed with the New York Yankees for $3.5 million last season, but his contract was voided after an age check failed.



Dominican League


The Dominican Prospect League will host summer camps for kids aged 15-17 in July.  There will most likely be many scouts on hand for this event as they weed out the future talent.  Dominican Prospect League Official Site 


Estrellas Orientales sent the rights of Fernando Tatis (Mets), Julio Lugo (Orioles), and Joel Guzman (Orioles) to Leones del Escogido for Alex Valdez (Athletics), Argenis Reyes, Donell Linares (Braves), Juan Diaz (Mariners), and Alfredo Marte (Diamondbacks).  Domincan League Official Site

Yaquis de Obregon released first baseman Erubiel Durazo.  He may end up returning to his former team, Aguilas de Mexicali, where he began the 2009-10 season before being traded for Hugo Castellanos (Monterrey, Triple-A Mexican League).  Baseball Mexico

Former Cardinals


The Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League signed John Rodriguez (Former St. Louis) to a contract for the 2010 season.  Atlantic League Official Site  Rodriguez began the 2010 season playing for Rojos del Aguila de Veracruz in the Triple-A Mexican League before being released.


Juan Gonzalez (Former MLB Spring Invite) was named to the Puerto Rican Double-A All-Star team.  Primera Hora


Kelvin Jimenez (Former St. Louis) pitched tossed six shutout innings for Doosan (KBO), allowing just four hits, four walks, and struck out eight for his seventh win of the season.  True Stories of Korean Baseball


Petroleros de Minatitlan of the Triple-A Mexican league signed Dennis Abreu (Former Tennessee) to a contract for the 2010 season.  Abreu was playing for Liceo in the Venezuelan Beisbol Tradicional League.  He played in six games going 6-for-16 (.375) with one double, two runs, four RBIs, six walks, three strikeouts, and .437 SLG. 


Les Walrond (Former Memphis) made his first start for Doosan (KBO) and pitched five innings allowing four hits, two runs, three walks, and striking out six for the winning decision.  True Stories of Korean Baseball


Navegantes del Magallanes of the Venezuelan League will bring back Ray Searage (Former Arkansas) as their pitching coach next season.  Magallanes Official Site


Juan Lucena (Former Springfield) has played in six games going 4-for-21 (.190) with one triple, one sacrifice, two runs, five RBIs, two walks, and .285 SLG.  Buenos Aires is 5-0 and in first place in the Venezuelan Beisbol Tradicional League.


Wladimir Mendoza (Former Johnson City) has played in six games going 6-for-15 (.400) with one double, one home run, seven runs, five RBIs, four walks, one strikeout, and .666 SLG.  Mendoza plays with Lucena and Sivira.


Jonathan Sivira (Former Quad Cities) has played in six games going 8-for-24 (.333) with one double, four runs, six RBIs, two walks, seven strikeouts, and .375 SLG.  Sivira plays with Lucena and Mendoza.


Brian Martin (Former Memphis) has played in 19 games going 25-for-70 (.357) with six doubles, eight home runs, 22 RBIs, 6 runs, 15 walks, 17 strikeouts, and .786 SLG.  Tijuana is 17-3 and in first place in the Liga Norte de Mexico.


Edgard Montiel (Former DSL) has no stat updates for the Nicaraguan National Championship, but the Managua is 4-4 and one game out of first in the playoffs.  Montiel did score the winning run for Managua on Friday.


Gary Burnham (Former Memphis) has played in 21 games going 25-for-72 (.347) with four doubles, six RBIs, 29 total bases, ten runs, 16 walks, one hit by pitch, two strikeouts, .472 OBP, and .403 SLG.  Godo is 2-19 and eighth and the Italian Baseball League.


Ivanon Coffie (Former Memphis) has played in 17 games going 16-for-64 (.250) with one double, one home run, nine RBIs, six runs, ten walks, ten strikeouts, .351 OBP, and .313 SLG.  Grosseto is 11-9 and fifth in the Italian Baseball League.


Fabian Marquez (Former Johnson City) has made eight appearances (six starts) posting an 0-6 record and 6.29 ERA.  He's allowed 35 hits, 35 runs (24 earned), 36 walks, and struck out 37 over 34.1 innings.  The CB Viladecans are 6-14 and eighth in the Spanish Baseball League.


Brian Falkenborg (Former St. Louis) has made 20 relief appearances posting a 1-1 record, 0.42 ERA, and one save.  He's allowed ten hits, three runs (one earned), three walks, and struck out 29 over 21.1 innings.  Softbank is 26-19 and third in the NPB Pacific League.


Edgar Gonzalez (Former Springfield) has played in 24 games going 15-for-68 (.221) with two doubles, one home run, six RBIs, 20 total bases, four runs, 11 walks, and 21 strikeouts.  Yomiuri is 27-13 and first in the NPB Central League.


Tomo Ohka (Former Memphis) has made two starts posting a 1-0 record and 3.18 ERA.  He's allowed 13 hits, four earned runs, one home run, one walk, and struck out four over 11.1 innings.  Yokohama is 16-24 and fourth in the NPB Central League.


So Taguchi (Former St. Louis) has played in 19 games going 15-for-51 (.294) with four doubles, one home run, four RBIs, 22 total bases, eight runs, three walks, one stolen base, and 11 strikeouts.  Orix is 18-24 and fifth in the NPB Pacific League.


Ivan Bellazetin (Former MiLB Spring Invite) has played in 38 games going 26-for-101 (.257) with three doubles, one triple, seven RBIs, 31 total bases, 18 runs, two walks, three stolen bases, 16 strikeouts, .279 OBP, .307 SLG, and .586 OPS.  Minatitlan is 17-34 and eighth in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.


Jolbert Cabrera (Former Memphis) has played in 31 games going 48-for-122 (.393) with ten doubles, two triples, four home runs, 24 RBIs, 74 total bases, 26 runs, 14 walks, four stolen bases, 19 strikeouts, .471 OBP, .607 SLG, and 1.078 OPS.  Oaxaca is 30-22 and second in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division. 


Hugo Castellanos (Former Memphis) has made 29 relief appearances posting a 1-3 record and 3.13 ERA.  He's allowed 21 hits, nine runs (eight earned), two home runs, eight walks, and struck out 16 over 23 innings.  Monterrey is 32-21 and first in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.


Iker Franco (Former Springfield) has played in 50 games going 46-for-184 (.250) with nine doubles, five home runs, 27 RBIs, 70 total bases, 20 runs, 22 walks, 35 strikeouts, one caught stealing, .333 OBP, .380 SLG, and .714 OPS.  Quintana Roo is 29-22 and third in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.


Raul Gonzalez (Former Memphis) has played in 32 games going 39-for122 (.320) with seven doubles, two triples, five home runs, 24 RBIs, 65 total bases, 28 runs, 18 walks, six stolen bases, 17 strikeouts, one caught stealing, .415 OBP, .533 SLG, and .948 OPS.  Campeche is 21-31 and seventh in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.


D'Angelo Jimenez (Former Memphis) has played in 50 games going 56-for-177 (.316) with ten doubles, one triple, six home runs, 33 RBIs, 86 total bases, 36 runs, 44 walks, 24 strikeouts, four caught stealing, .452 OBP, .486 SLG, and .938 OPS.  Yucatan is 28-25 and fourth in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.


Ricardo Rincon (Former St. Louis) has made ten starts posting a 4-5 record and 5.80 ERA.  He's allowed 50 hits, 33 runs (32 earned), three home runs, 33 walks, and struck out 27 over 49.2 innings.  Minatitlan is 17-34 and eighth in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.


Nerio Rodriguez (Former St. Louis) has made 11 starts posting a 5-5 record and 4.69 ERA.  He's allowed 60 hits, 35 runs (33 earned), eight home runs, 23 walks, and struck out 61 over 63.1 innings.  Monclova is 20-33 and seventh in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.


Esteban Yan (Former St. Louis) has made 18 appearance (one start) posting a 4-2 record, 5.88 ERA, and one save.  He's allowed 26 hits, 19 runs (17 earned), seven home runs, seven walks, and struck out 22 over 26 innings.  Mexico is 29-24 and tied for third in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.
