Latin Tidbits

Baseball America's Ben Badler reports the Arizona Diamondbacks have assigned outfielder Wagner Mateo to their Dominican Summer League team for 2010.

Badler also hears that the Minnesota Twins will place former Cardinals free agent target Miguel Sano in the Dominican Summer League, most likely to get some live game action under his belt before GCL opens play.

The DSL Cardinals will not be facing either team unless in the playoffs.

MLB Fanhouse's Frankie Piliere says the Cardinals are in on Dominican outfielder Vicmal De La Cruz and are keeping tabs on a few unnamed Venezuelan prospects.  De La Cruz is considered to be one of the top talents coming out this coming July 2nd for the international free agent period.  Here is Piliere's list of top prospects that will be available this coming July.
