The Florida Winter Baseball League plans to reopen in October 2011, after having their 2009 season cut short due to lack of funds.  Florida Winter Baseball League

 

 

Other Organization's Prospects

 

The Philadelphia Phillies signed 16-year old Czech right-handed pitcher Marek MinarikMister Baseball

 

The Arizona Diamondbacks officially signed Dominican outfielder Wagner Mateo at a $512,000 bonus.  Mateo originally signed with the St. Louis Cardinals, but his contract was voided after concerns over his vision arose.  Baseball America's Ben Badler reports that Mateo will begin in the Dominican Summer League.

 

The Cincinnati Reds officially signed Cuban outfielder Felix Perez as a $550,000 bonus.

 

The Detroit Tigers signed 17-year old Venezuelan pitcher Jose Rodriguez.  He pitched against the VSL Cardinals on May 18th.

 

The Pittsburgh Pirates signed 17-year old Dominican outfielder Willy Garcia at a $280,000 bonus.  They also inked 18-year old Dominican right-handed pitcher Brayan Almonte, 17-year old Colombian right-handed pitcher Oderman Rocha, 18-year old Venezuelan right-handed pitcher Jose Luis Acosta, 17-year old Dominican left-handed pitcher Angel Sanchez, and 19-year old Venezuelan first baseman Jose Roman.

 

The Dominican Prospect League reports the Houston Astros inked 16-year old Dominican right-hander Michael Feliz.  Feliz originally signed with the Oakland Athletics at the beginning of the year, but his contract was voided after a failed performance-enhancing drug test.  Baseball America's Ben Badler says Feliz' bonus is for $400,000 and the team also lined up 17-year old Dominican right-hander Jose Montero for $350,000.

 

Cuban pitcher Yadel Marti signed with Rojos del Aguilas de Veracruz in the Triple-A Mexican League.  Marti pitched for the Tigres del Licey in the Dominican League over the winter.

 

Past Cardinals free agent targets Miguel Sano (Twins) and Duanel Jones (Padres) will both begin their professional careers in the Dominican Summer League.  Jones will be serving a 50-game suspension before he starts play.

 

 

International Free Agent Market Place

 

MLB Fanhouse's Frankie Piliere wrote about the 24 international prospects that you should keep an eye on.  Piliere told me the Cardinals have interest in Dominican outfielder Vicmal De La Cruz and a couple other Venezuelan players.  Piliere tweets that some teams are concerned with Dominican outfielder Eskarlin Vasquez's age.  The Dominican Prospect League released new videos of some of the upcoming July 2, 2010 prospects.

Cuban Yuniesky Maya was ruled a free agent and worked out for teams on May 21st.  Maya is still waiting for clearance from the OFAC to enter the United States

 

Japanese All-Star pitcher Yu Darvish seems determined to not make a move to major league baseball, according to NBP Tracker.

 

Second baseman Rafael Valdes and outfielder Kenen Bailly have left Cuba in pursuit of a job in the major leagues.

 

Cuban outfielder Juan Carlos Linares, right-handed pitcher Felix Fuentes, right-handed pitcher Reinier Casanova, and right-handed pitcher Cesar Lopez will have another showcase on May 26th, according to Qbano34.

 

Five Turkish players are expected to participate in the Croatian training camp, to have a chance to showcase for MLB scouts at the Italian workout.  Baseball World

 

 

Cuban League

The league has set the picks for the 2010 Draft and it will take place on June 30th.  Mexican Pacific League

 

 

Dominican League

 

The Azucareros del Este sent first baseman Andy Marte and outfielder Engel Beltre (Rangers) to the Tigres del Licey for outfielder Wilkin Ramirez (Tigers), catcher Salvador Paniagua (Nuevo Laredo/Triple-A Mexican League), and pitcher Esmailin Caridad (Cubs).  Listin Diario

Bobby Abreu (Angels) has decided he will play for Leones del Caracas this coming winter.  Comandante del Beisbol

 

Aguilas del Zulia shipped Luis Oliveras to Caribes de Anzoategui for Luis Bolivar (Braves).  Comandante del Beisbol

 

 

Australian League

Former Cardinals

 

Jose Leon (Former Arkansas) went 1-for-2 as the Southern Team beat the Eastern Team in the Puerto Rican Double-A League.  Primera Hora 

 

The Sultanes de Monterrey of the Triple-A Mexican League signed Julio Manon (Former Johnson City) to a contract for the 2010 season.

 

Kit Pellow (Former MLB Spring Invite) signed a 2010 contract with the Tijuana Cimarrones in the Golden Baseball League.  Pellow played for a short time with the Broncos de Reynosa of the Triple-A Mexican League.


Alexander Francisco (Former DSL) signed a 2010 contract to pitch for the Edmonton Capitals of the Golden Baseball League.  Francisco is also listed as a reserve on the Petroleros de Minatitlan (Triple-A Mexican league) roster.

 

Les Walrond (Former Memphis) tossed six scoreless innings, allowing three hits, three walks, and struck out six for the no decision for Doosan in the KBO.  True Stories of Korean Baseball

 

The Diablos Rojos del Mexico signed Orber Moreno (Former Memphis) to a contract for the 2010 season.  Moreno was released a couple weeks ago by Dorados de Chihuahua of the Triple-A Mexican League.

 

Juan Lucena (Former Springfield) has played in seven games going 4-for-24 (.166) with one triple, one sacrifice, two runs, seven RBIs, three walks, and .250 SLG.  Buenos Aires is 6-1 and first in the Beisbol Tradicional League (Venezuela).

 

Wladimir Mendoza (Former Johnson City) has played in seven games going 8-for-20 (.400) with three doubles, one home run, ten runs, six RBIs, five walks, two strikeouts, and .700 SLG.  Mendoza plays on same team as Lucena and Sivira.

 

Jonathan Sivira (Former Quad Cities) has played in seven games going 11-for-29 (.379) with two doubles, six runs, seven RBIs, three walks, seven strikeouts, and .448 SLG.  Sivira plays on the same team as Lucena and Mendoza.

 

Brian Martin (Former Memphis) has played in 25 games going 28-for-87 (.322) with nine doubles, eight home runs, 25 RBIs, 28 runs, 20 walks, 19 strikeouts, and .701 SLG.  Tijuana is 20-6-1 and first in the Liga Norte de Mexico.

 

Edgard Montiel (Former DSL) has played in 32 games going 30-for-91 (.330) with six doubles, one triple, 17 RBIs, 13 runs, 18 walks, eight strikeouts, and eight errors.  Managua is 7-4 and in third place in the Nicaraguan National Championship Second Round.

 

Gary Burnham (Former Memphis) has played in 24 games going 30-for-84 (.357) with seven doubles, eight RBIs, 37 total bases, ten runs, 17 walks, one hit by pitch, three strikeouts, .440 SLG, and .471 OBP.  Godo is 3-21 and eighth in the Italian Baseball League.

 

Ivanon Coffie (Former Memphis) has played in 20 games going 19-for-73 (.247) with one double, two home runs, ten RBIs, 25 total bases, eight runs, 13 walks, two hit by pitches, 14 strikeouts, .342 SLG, and .375 OBP.  Grosseto is 13-10 and fifth in the Italian Baseball League.

 

Fabian Marquez (Former Johnson City) has made nine appearances (seven starts) posting an 0-7 record and 6.81 ERA.  He's allowed 41 hits, 44 runs (29 earned), 44 walks, hit 11 batters, and struck out 39 over 38.1 innings.  CB Viladecans are 6-16 and eighth in the Spanish Baseball League.

 

Brian Falkenborg (Former St. Louis) has made 22 relief appearances posting a 1-1 record, 0.39 ERA, and one save.  He's allowed 11 hits, three runs (one earned), three walks, thrown one wild pitch, and struck out 30 over 23.1 innings.  Softbank is 28-21 and third in the NPB Pacific League.

 

Edgar Gonzalez (Former Springfield) has played in 27 games going 17-for-78 (.218) with two doubles, one home run, six RBIs, 22 total bases, four runs, 12 walks, one hit by pitch, and 24 strikeouts.  Yomiuri is 28-17 and first in the NPB Central League.

 

Tomo Ohka (Former Memphis) has made three starts posting a 2-0 record and 3.12 ERA.  He's allowed 17 hits, six earned runs, four walks, thrown two wild pitches, and struck out eight over 17.1 innings.  Yokohama is 19-25 and fourth in the NPB Central League.

 

So Taguchi (Former St. Louis) has played in 19 games going 15-for-51 (.294) with four doubles, one home run, four RBIs, 22 total bases, eight runs, one stolen base, one sac fly, three walks, and 11 strikeouts.  Orix is 22-25 and fourth in the NPB Pacific league.

 

Dennis Abreu (Former Tennessee) has played in 11 games going 9-for-36 (.250) with two doubles, five RBIs, 11 total bases, three runs, eight walks, tow stolen bases, six strikeouts, one caught stealing, .386 OBP, .306 SLG, and .692 OPS.  Minatitlan is 2-4 and seventh in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.

 

Ivan Bellazetin (Former MiLB Spring Invite) has played in 44 games going 31-for-115 (.270) with three doubles, one triple, seven RBIs, 36 total bases, 22 runs, five walks, three stolen bases, 18 strikeouts, one caught stealing, .306 OBP, .313 SLG, and .619 OPS. Minatitlan is 2-4 and seventh in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.

 

Jolbert Cabrera (Former Memphis) has played in 37 games going 57-for-148 (.385) with 11 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 24 RBIs, 84 total bases, 33 runs, 16 walks, five stolen bases, 24 strikeouts, .462 OBP, .568 SLG, and 1.029 OPS.  Oaxaca is 4-2 and tied for first in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidlago Division.

 

Hugo Castellanos (Former Memphis) has made 34 relief appearances posting a 2-3 record and 2.60 ERA.  He's allowed 25 hits, nine runs (eight earned), two home runs, nine walk, and struck out 19 over 27.2 innings.  Monterrey is 3-3 and tied for fourth in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.

 

Iker Franco (Former Springfield) has played in 55 games going 52- for-201 (.259) with 11 doubles, five home runs, 30 RBIs, 78 total bases, 23 runs, 23 walks, 37 strikeouts, one caught stealing, .338 OBP, .388 SLG, and .726 OPS.  Franco was named to the 2010 Triple-A Mexican League All-Star game.  Quintana Roo is 3-2 and third in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.

 

Raul Gonzalez (Former Memphis) has played in 36 games going 31-for-135 (.311) with eight doubles, two triples, five home runs, 25 RBIs, 69 total bases, 31 runs, 21 walks, six stolen bases, 20 strikeouts, one caught stealing, .415 OBP, .511 SLG, and .926 OPS.  Campeche is 2-2 and fifth in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.

 

D'Angelo Jimenez (Former Memphis) has played in 55 games going 63-for-194 (.325) with 12 doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 42 RBIs, 98 total bases, 40 runs, 46 walks, 27 strikeouts, four caught stealing, .450 OBP, .505 SLG, and .956 OPS.  Jimenez was named to the 2010 Triple-A Mexican League All-Star game.  Yucatan is 2-3 and sixth in the Triple-A Mexican league Hidalgo Division.

 

Ricardo Rincon (Former St. Louis) has made 12 starts posting a 4-6 record and 6.59 ERA.  He's allowed 67 hits, 44 runs (42 earned), five home runs, 39 walks, and struck out 33 over 57.1 innings.  Minatitlan is 2-4 and seventh in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.

 

Nerio Rodriguez (Former St. Louis) has made 12 starts posting a 6-5 record and 4.22 ERA.  He's allowed 63 hits, 35 runs (33 earned), eight home runs, 25 walks, and struck out 65 over 70.1 innings.  Monclova is 5-1 and tied for first in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.

 

Esteban Yan (Former St. Louis) has made 20 appearances (two starts) posting as 5-2 record, 5.51 ERA, and one save.  He's allowed 33 hits, 22 runs (20 earned), seven home runs, nine walks, and struck out 26 over 32.2 innings.  Mexico is 2-4 and sixth in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.
