Other Organzations' Prospects

 

The National takes a look at how the Minnesota Twins have changed their reputation when it comes to signing international talent.  They locked up 16-year old German outfielder Max Kepler for $775,000 and 16-year old Dominican shortstop Jorge Polanco for $750,000.  The National

 

The Atlanta Braves have officially signed Cuban outfielder Yasser Gomez, according to Jorge Ebro.

 

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed 18-year old Dominican right-hander Jonathan Herrand at a $150,000 bonus.

 

The Cincinnati Reds' Yorman Rodriguez was investigated extensively by MLB and cleared the hurdles.  The Cardinals had made an attempt to sign him before he decided on the Reds.

 

30-year old Cuban right-hander Amaury Sanit was handed a 50-game suspension after failing a drug test for perfomance-enhancing substances.  He pitches for the New York Yankees. 

 

 

International Free Agent Market

 

Sports Illustrated's Melissa Segura tweets that the New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Oakland Athletics, and Toronto Blue Jays are showing interest in Dominican right-handed pitcher Luis Alvaro Abad.  She says six-to-eight teams are on the tail of Dominican shortstop Estalin Peguero and the New York Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Houston Astros are keeping an eye on Elvis Sanchez.

 

23-year old Cuban infielder Wilfredo Carmenate has decided to enter the 2010 MLB Draft instead of testing free agency.

 

A dozen scouts came out to watch 15-year old Mexican right-hander Luis Heredia throw.  Mazatlan Official Site

Carlos Gonzalez (Former Johnson City) and Juan Mosquera (Former GCL - pictured) helped Panama Metro win the Panama League Championship.  Gonzalez said he was being scouted and talked with a member of the Aguilas del Zulia (Venezuelan League) organization about pitching this coming winter for the team.

 

Kris Honel (Former Memphis) threw a seven-inning no hitter for the Chico Outlaws against Enrique Brito's Tijuana Cimarrones in the Golden Baseball League.  Golden Baseball League Official Site

The Lancaster Barnstormers of the Atlantic League signed Reggie Taylor (Former Memphis) to a contract for the 2010 season.  He played with Olmecas de Tabasco in the Triple-A Mexican League for a short time.

 

Juan Lucena (Former Springfield) has played in eight games going 5-for-32 (.156) with one double, one triple, one sacrifice, two runs, seven RBIs, five walks, and .250 SLG.  Buenos Aires is 6-2 and tied for first in the Beisbol Tradicional League (Venezuela).

 

Wladimir Mendoza (Former Johnson City) has played in eight games going 9-for-27 (.333) with three doubles, one home run, one sacrifice, ten runs, seven RBIs, five walks, three strikeouts, and .555 SLG.  Buenos Aires is 6-2 and tied for first in the Beisbol Tradicional League (Venezuela).

 

Jonathan Sivira (Former Quad Cities) has played in eight games going 13-for-37 (.351) with two doubles, six runs, seven RBIs, four walks, nine strikeouts, and .405 SLG.  Buenos Aires is 6-2 and tied for first in the Beisbol Tradicional League (Venezuela).

 

Brian Martin (Former Memphis) has played in 28 games going 32-for-97 (.330) with ten doubles, eight home runs, 28 RBIs, 30 runs, 23 walks, 21 strikeouts, and .680 SLG.  Tijuana is 25-6-2 and in first place in the Liga Norte de Mexico.

 

Edgard Montiel (Former DSL) has played in 36 games going 30-for-104 (.288) with six doubles, one triple, 17 RBIs, 13 runs, 20 walks, nine strikeouts, grounded into three double plays, and ten errors.  Managua is 10-5 and in first place (by a half game) in the Nicaraguan National Championship.

 

Gary Burnham (Former Memphis) has played in 27 games going 30-for-92 (.326) with seven doubles, eight RBIs, 37 total bases, ten runs, 17 walks, three hit by pitches, three strikeouts, two ground into double plays, .402 SLG, and .446 OBP.  Godo is 3-24 and eighth in the Italian Baseball League.

 

Ivanon Coffie (Former Memphis) has played in 23 games going 21-for-84 (.250) with two doubles, two home runs, 11 RBIs, 29 total bases, nine runs, 14 walks, two hit by pitches, 17 strikeouts, four ground into double plays, .345 SLG, and .370 OBP.  Grosseto is 13-13 and sixth in the Italian Baseball League.

 

Denes Simonyi (Former MiLB Spring Invite) has played in four games going 2-for-14 (.143) with one double, one RBI, five runs, two walks, four stolen bases, .556 OBP, and .214 SLG.  Szentendre Sleepwalkers are 12-2 and second in the Hungarian League.

 

Fabian Marquez (Former Johnson City) has made ten appearances (seven starts) posting an 0-7 record and 6.47 ERA.  He's allowed 43 hits, 44 runs (29 earned), 45 walks, hit 11 batters, thrown 11 wild pitches, and struck out 45 over 40.1 innings.  He's 0-for-1 with one RBI at the plate.  C.B. Viladecans are 7-17 and eighth in the Spanish League.

 

Brian Falkenborg (Former St. Louis) has made 25 relief appearances posting a 2-1 record, 0.68 ERA, and one save.  He's allowed 15 hits, four runs (two earned), four walks, and struck out 33 over 26.1 innings.  Softbank is 31-23 and third in the NBP's Pacific League.

 

Edgar Gonzalez (Former Springfield) has played in 30 games going 19-for-88 (.216) with two doubles, one home run, six RBIs, 24 total bases, four runs, 13 walks, one hit by pitch, 28 strikeouts, and one ground into double play.  Yomiuri is 32-18 and first in the NPB's Central League.

 

Tomo Ohka (Former Memphis) has made four starts posting a 2-1 record and 3.09 ERA.  He's allowed 22 hits, nine runs (eight earned), two home runs, four walks, thrown two wild pitches, and struck out 13 over 23.1 innings.  Yokohama is 20-29 and fourth in the NPB's Central League.

 

So Taguchi (Former St. Louis) has played in 23 games going 17-for-60 (.283) with four doubles, two home runs, six RBIs, 27 total bases, nine runs, one stolen base, three walks, one hit by pitch, and 12 strikeouts.  Orix is 25-27 and fourth in the NPB's Pacific League.

 

Dennis Abreu (Former Tennessee) has played in 17 games going 18-for-58 (.310) with three doubles, two home runs, 12 RBIs, 27 total bases, seven runs, nine walks, three stolen bases, 11 strikeouts, one caught stealing, .403 OBP, .466 SLG, and .869 OPS.  Minatitlan is 5-7 and tied for sixth in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.

Jolbert Cabrera (Former Memphis) has played in 43 games going 63-for-169 (.373) with 11 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 27 RBIs, 90 total bases, 37 runs, 18 walks, five stolen bases, 29 strikeouts, .446 OBP, .533 SLG, and .978 OPS.  Oaxaca is 6-6 and fifth in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.

 

Hugo Castellanos (Former Memphis) has made 37 relief appearances posting a 2-4 record and 4.34 ERA.  He's allowed 30 hits, 15 runs (14 earned), two home runs, 11 walks, and struck out 19 over 29 innings.  Monterrey is 6-6 and tied for fourth in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.

 

Iker Franco (Former Springfield) has played in 61 games going 56-for-217 (.258) with 11 doubles, seven home runs, 36 RBIs, 88 total bases, 27 runs, 28 walks, 39 strikeouts, two caught stealing, .343 OBP, .406 SLG, and .748 OPS.  Quintana Roo is 6-5 and tied for third in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.

 

Raul Gonzalez (Former Memphis) has played in 42 games going 46-for-155 (.297) with eight doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 28 RBIs, 79 total bases, 35 runs, 24 walks, nine stolen bases, 23 strikeouts, one caught stealing, .401 OBP, .510 SLG, and .911 OPS.  Campeche is 7-3 and in first in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.

 

D'Angelo Jimenez (Former Memphis) has played in 61 games going 70-for-210 (.333) with 13 doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 48 RBIs, 106 total bases, 45 runs, 52 walks, one stolen base, 32 strikeouts, four caught stealing, .460 OBP, .505 SLG, and .965 OPS.  Yucatan is 6-5 and teid for third in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.

 

Julio Manon (Former Johnson City) has made six relief appearances posting a 1-1 record, 5.00 ERA, and two saves.  He's allowed ten hits, five earned runs, two home runs, five walks, and struck out ten over nine innings.  Monterrey is 6-6 and tied for fourth in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division. 

 

Orber Moreno (Former Memphis) has made seven relief appearances posting a 2-0 record and 5.40 ERA.  He's allowed 11 hits, three earned runs, four walks, and struck one out over five innings.  Mexico is 6-6 and teid for fourth in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.

 

Ricardo Rincon (Former St. Louis) has made 12 starts posting a 4-6 record and 6.59 ERA.  He's allowed 67 hits, 44 runs (42 earned), five home runs, 39 walks, and struck out 33 over 57.1 innings.  Minatitlan is 5-7 and tied for sixth in the Triple-A Mexican League Hidalgo Division.

 

Nerio Rodriguez (Former St. Louis) has made 13 starts posting a 6-6 record and 3.96 ERA.  He's allowed 68 hits, 37 runs (34 earned), eight home runs, 28 walks, and struck out 73 over 77.1 innings.  Monclova is 8-4 and second in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.

 

Esteban Yan (Former St. Louis) has made 21 appearances (three starts) posting a 6-2 record, 5.35 ERA, and one save.  He's allowed 40 hits, 25 runs (23 earned), eight home runs, ten walks, and struck out 29 over 38.2 innings.  Mexico is 6-6 and tied for fourth in the Triple-A Mexican League Madero Division.
