It was a wet week for the Gulf Coast League Cardinals. Of the team's six scheduled games, only three were not lost due to the weather.
The Cardinals did post two victories with only one defeat including tallying 10 runs in both of its victories. The first win came against the Astros when the team posted a 10-4 edge. Second baseman Starlin Rodriguez led the offense with three hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Always a threat on the bases, he also swiped his third base of the young season. Shortstop Hildemaro Vargas added two hits, two runs batted in, and scored three runs.
The next day, the Cardinals lost 5-1 to their Roger Dean roommates, the Marlins. Amaury Castillo was tagged with the loss after getting knocked around for three runs in only one inning of work.
The next two games were lost to the rain but the team was back in action on Independence Day. Rodriguez led the troops to a 10-4 victory from his leadoff spot. The 20-year-old was a home run short of the cycle and once again drove in three runs. Luis Pimentel aided in the victory with three RBIs of his own.
