Steven Hill plated six in the second game of Springfield's doubleheader. The system went 4-3 on Saturday.

The Redbirds got out to an early 3-0 lead and P.J. Walters made it hold up with seven innings of one-run ball. Matt Pagnozzi had three hits and drove in three.

After two days and three games postponed, the Cardinals must have been rusty. Unfortunately for them, the home Naturals took advantage, breaking open a 1-1 game with nine runs in the fifth and sixth against Nick Additon and reliever Gary Daley Jr. The offense managed just two hits, so the highlights list is short.

The Cardinals found their bats in the nightcap, earning a doubleheader split. Springfield batted around in the final inning, tacking seven runs onto their 4-1 lead. Every position player except Jose Garcia had at least one hit with Steven Hill's three along with six RBI leading the way. Brian Broderick tossed five shutout innings before getting nicked in the final two.

The first-place Cardinals clawed back from a 6-1 deficit to take the game into extra innings on Chris Edmondson's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth. They prevailed in the 12th inning on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch as Packy Elkins took one for the team. It was his second HBP of the game to go with two errors. Three of the visitors' runs were unearned as the Cardinals committed four errors. Five relievers combined for 8 2/3 scoreless innings.
