It was a roller coaster week for the Gulf Coast League Cardinals. The team could not find any consistency and alternated wins and losses.
The Cards started off the week on the road with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Mets. Bryan Martinez was the tough luck loser. The right-hander allowed only one earned run in five innings while striking out five. Luis Pimentel singled twice and drove in the team's only run.
The next day, the Cardinals took extra frames to overcome a four-run Astros' top of the first to win 5-4. Trevor Martin had two hits from the two-hole while Hector Garcia drove in two runs. Starter Adriano Uribe was chased after only two-thirds of an inning. None of the four runs he was charged with were earned.
The Cardinals' Jupiter stadium mates, the Marlins, pulled out a 3-2 victory on Friday. Ben Freeman was solid in five innings of work. Josh Lucas was charged with the loss after giving up a solo home run.
The team traveled to meet the Nationals on Saturday and pulled out a 7-3 victory. Illdemaro Vargas doubled twice and Anthony Fonseca scored two runs. Anthony Bryant hit a three-run shot and finished with four RBIs.
