Cardinals Minor League Notebook: 08/16/10

Edgar Lara plated seven in Quad Cities' doubleheader sweep on a 3-5 Sunday across the system.

Colorado Springs 3 at Memphis (66-56, -3.5G) 1


Though Lance Lynn tossed a quality start, the Redbirds offense couldn't do much. Lynn also plated their only run as the hitters were 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Manager Chris Maloney and second baseman Daniel Descalso were ejected in an argument over a non-caught stealing call in the seventh inning that turned out to be the Sky Sox' final run.

The Cardinals' three-game winning streak was snapped at home. Arquimedes Nieto took the loss after yielding all six Missions runs in the first five innings. Xavier Scruggs homered for the fifth time since joining Springfield last month. Pete Kozma committed his 34th error of the season.

The Bandits plated nine runs in the final two innings to pull away. Nine of their 14 hits were doubles. Edgar Lara finished the day with seven RBI. In the process, Quad Cities extended its winning streak to three games with the sweep.

Just 507 Muckdogs fans witnessed the home team come back to tie the game at 5-5 in the sixth inning. The bullpen could not hold the visiting Renegades as LaCurtis Mayes took the loss in his final game prior to his promotion to Quad Cities. Jonathan Rodriguez hit for the cycle and drove in a pair.
