Quad Cities Roster Shakeup

The St. Louis Cardinals moved six players on their Midwest League Class A affiliate on Wednesday.

Already assured of a playoff berth due to a strong first half, the Quad Cities River Bandits have continued to win in the second, with a 31-18 record and a three-game lead.

With under three weeks to go in the regular season, the parent St. Louis Cardinals made a number of roster changes on Wednesday, six to be exact. They include:

  • Outfielder Michael Swinson activated from the seven-day disabled list.

  • Third baseman Alan Ahmady activated from the seven-day disabled list

  • Outfielder Ross Smith placed on the seven-day disabled list.

  • Outfielder C.J. Beatty assigned to the Palm Beach Cardinals (previously reported).

  • Right-handed pitcher Chris Corrigan promoted from the Batavia Muckdogs.

  • Right-handed pitcher Chris Notti has been suspended for the remainder of the season.

Swinson, 20, went onto the DL for a second time this season on July 7. The latest problem was a hamstring injury. The left-handed hitter began a rehab assignment with the Gulf Coast Cardinals on August 7, where he went 0-for-15. He also walked three times, was 2-for-3 in stolen base attempts and scored a run.

Ahmady hit the Bandits' DL on August 7 due to a quad strain. The 22-year-old has been a very productive bat in his first 22 Midwest League games with a .361/.477/.514 line and 14 RBI in 72 at-bats. Ahmady was promoted from Batavia on July 3.

Ironically, Smith, 22, joined Quad Cities from Batavia when Swinson went onto the DL on July 7. In his first 25 games with the Bandits, the right-handed hitter posted a .188/.270/.213 line over 80 at-bats. Smith had no home runs and two RBI.

Corrigan, rejoins the Bandits after pitching for them during the first month of the season. The 22-year-old allowed 11 runs, seven earned, in 7 2/3 innings for a 8.22 ERA. After a stint in extended spring training, Corrigan was assigned to Batavia, where he posted a 4.02 ERA in 13 appearances.
