Aaron Cunningham Profile
Aaron Cunningham's brief career with the Cubs organization is over. After being signed to a minor league deal in November, the Cubs granted the 27-year-old his release.
Invited to spring training as a non-roster player, Cunningham appeared in six spring training games (3-13, all singles) and knocked in two runs. In his 10th year of pro baseball, Cunningham has spent time in majors with A's, Padres, and Indians. He gained recognition this spring from the media for his "socks" sales, peddling colorful crew socks to players and others.
The Cubs optioned four players off their 40-man roster to the minors and also assigned five players who were non-roster invitees to their minor league camp.
Optioned to the minors were OF Jorge Soler (Tennessee), 2B Arismendy Alcantara (Iowa), IF Logan Watkins (Iowa) and OF Matt Szczur (Iowa) while 3B Kris Bryant, OF Albert Almora, SS Jeudy Valdez, RHP Carlos Pimentel, and LHP Eric Jokisch were assigned to minor league camp. Some of these player still may appear in major league spring games but will concentrate their training at the minor league camp. Javier Baez remains in camp as Cubs manager Rick Renteria said they want to see him work and play at different positions.
