The Cubs have dealt veteran starting pitcher Ryan Dempster to the Texas Rangers, just moments before Tuesday's trade deadline.
It came to the last minute of the eleventh hour, but Ryan Dempster
has been dealt by the Cubs.
Dempster was traded from Chicago to the Texas Rangers in exchange for Christian Villanueva and right-handed pitcher Kyle Hendricks, each who were playing with the Rangers' Class-A farm affiliate.
Dempster, 35, posted a 2.25 ERA as a Cub in 2012. He was reportedly being pursued by Yankees, Braves, and Tigers, in addition to the Rangers.
The Cubs had originally arranged to send Dempster to the Braves last week, but he declined the trade utilizing his 10-and-5 rights.
The Rangers have acquired Dempster with knowledge that he is likely a rental. His contract is set to expire at the end of the current season.
