Five Cubs pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout, Iowa's first of the season as the team ERA coming into the game was 6.46
Scoring: Justin Bour and Donnie Murphy both drew bases loaded walks as the Cubs forced in two runs in the first inning for a lead they wouldn't relinquish. J.C. Boscan delivered a RBI single in the fourth and a passed ball in the fifth made it 4-0. Darnell McDonald knocked in the I-Cubs final run on the night with a RBI single in the sixth.
Pitching: Barret Loux showed why he was named Texas League Pitcher of the Year in 2012 as the 6-foot-5 right-hander tossed five shutout innings allowing three hits and a walk with six strikeouts. He threw 73 pitches in recording his second win of the season. Iowa relievers entered the game with a 7.71 ERA but you wouldn't have believed it Friday night. Casey Coleman, Zach Putnam, Rafael Dolis and Blake Parker all pitched a scoreless inning combining for 5 strikeouts and none of the right-handers allowed a hit.

Cubs Notes: Infielder Brent Lillibridge and LHP Hisanori Takahashi both cleared waivers and have been assigned to the Iowa Cubs. Casey Coleman RHP, was activated from the disabled list and the I-Cubs placed Jaye Champman on the DL with a left hip strain. RHP Jensen Lewis was released.
Tennessee 8, Huntsville 1
The Smokies made it four straight as Matt Loosen twirled four shutout innings in his first start of the year and the Smokies got five runs in the first.
Scoring: Matt Szczur led off the game with a triple and scored on Arismendy Alcantara's sacrifice fly. Justin Bour made it 2-0 on a RBI single and Christian Villanueva followed with a two-run double. Jair Fernandez capped off the big first inning with a single, plating Villanueva. Tennessee added two more runs in the seventh on a RBI single from Alcantara and a sacrifice fly from Jae-Hoon Ha. Huntsville scored its only run of the game in the seventh but the Smokies got it right back on two Huntsville errors.
Pitching: Matt Loosen made the most of his first start of the season throwing 75 pitches in four shutout innings with eight strikeouts. He gave up four hits and walked two. Loosen, a 23rd round pick in 2010 of the Cubs, started the year at extended spring training and joined the Smokies April 16. The right-hander started 23 games for Daytona last year going 11-4 with a 4.07 ERA and a .202 BAA. A.J. Morris got his first win of the season allowing a run on three hits and two walks in three innings. He fanned two and threw 43 pitches. Brian Schlitter tossed the final two innings and has yet to allow an earned run on the season.

Tampa 8, Daytona 3
Tampa scored six runs in the first and held on as the Yankees have won the first two games of the series.
Scoring: Tampa scored six runs in the first, four coming on a grand slam, as they sent 12 batters to the plate. Daytona got on the board in the fifth on a RBI double by Chad Noble followed by a RBI single from Taiwan Easterling. The Cubs scored in the sixth on a double by Jorge Soler, who eventually scored on Dustin Geiger's groundout. Tampa added runs in the seventh and eighth.
Pitching: Zach Cates was hoping to build on his first win since being traded to the Cubs organization, he only got two outs. The right-hander walked three, hit a batter, and gave up three hits, including a grand slam as the Yankees scored six times. Hunter Cervanka made his second relief appearance tossing 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball with three walks and no hits. Luis Lira had his longest outing of the year going 3.1 innings allowing three hits and a run on a walk and three strikeouts. Frank Del Valle allowed his first run of 2013 in his fourth game (2.2 IP, 3H, 1ER, 5BB, 3K)

Kane County vs. Quad Cities
Due to inclement weather, the game was canceled and will be made up as a double-header staring at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 20, at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. The Cougars have been postponed six times in the last nine days and have not played on back to back days since April 9-10. Friday's cancelation snaps a stretch of 92 consecutive regular season home games without a postponement at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark going back to Aug. 8, 2011.
