Cubs claim pitcher on waivers from Cardinals
The Chicago Cubs claimed right-handed relief pitcher Eduardo Sanchez off waivers from St. Louis, placed him on their 40-man roster, and assigned him to Iowa. The Cardinals needed the 40-man roster spot for starting pitcher Tyler Lyons. Sanchez was once considered the closer of the future for the Cardinals and in 2011 went 3-1 with a 1.08 ERA and five saves with 35 Ks in 30 IP for St. Louis. He pitched in 17 games for the Cardinals last year allowing 13 BB in 15 IP and a 6.60 ERA. Sanchez had shoulder problems in 2011 and 2012 and missed time this season with a forearm strain. He appeared in nine games with Memphis this year tossing 9.2 IP with 10 hits, four walks, and seven strikeouts with a 3.72 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP.

Brian Bogusevic hit homers in both games of the doubleheader, including the game-inner in the second game as Iowa swept Las Vegas.
At the Plate: Iowa had only three hits through the first six innings but Brian Bogusevic tied the game with a solo homer to lead off the seventh. After the next two hitters were retired, Brad Nelson walked and Edwin Maysonet pinch ran. Ian Stewart singled advancing Maysonet to third and Donnie Murphy delivered the walk-off single.

On the Mound: LHP Brooks Raley (3-3 4.78) worked three innings but left the game after throwing only 45 pitches. He allowed a run on two hits and two walks with four punchouts. Esmailin Caridad (3-2 6.05) was brilliant in relief working three scoreless innings yielding a walk and a hit. It was his best outing of the season as the right-hander threw 41 pitches, 27 for strieks. Rafael Dolis got the win (1-0 5.40) striking out the side in the seventh.
At the Plate: Dave Sappelt's sacrifice fly gave Iowa a 1-0 lead in the first and Sappelt added a RBI single in the third. Darnell McDonald's double scored Sappelt for a 3-0 Iowa lead. McDonald's second double of the game scored Sappelt and pitcher Barret Loux drew a walk with the bases loaded for a 5-0 lead after five. For the second straight game, Bogusevic provided some late inning heroics drilling a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth.

On the Mound: Barret Loux (2-2 7.31) threw no-hit ball for five innings but the 51s broke though in the sixth as Loux's had his longest outing of the season throwing 92 pitches, only 48 for strikes. He fanned five and walked three giving up just a double but left with the bases loaded. RHP Zach Putnam (1-1 3.86) couldn't hold the lead allowing three singles that tied the game at 5-5 for a blown save but he did get the win. RHP Blake Parker worked the final inning, allowing just a walk for his sixth save.
Daytona 7, Jupiter 2—10 innings
Daytona (22-21) scored five times in the top of the 10th defeating Jupiter (24-20).
At the Plate: Daytona took a 1-0 lead in the fifth when Ben Carhart doubled and scored on John Andreoli's single. Javier Baez doubled in the seventh, stole third, and scored on Dustin Geiger's groundout. Daytona blew it open in the tenth scoring five times. Three straight singles from Chad Noble, Chadd Krist and Zeke DeVoss scored Tim Saudners, who pinch-ran for Noble. Krist beat the throw home on a grounder by Wes Darvill for a 4-2 lead. After Baez singled to load the bases, Jorge Soler ripped a two-run single. Geiger hit into a double play but Baez scored on the play.

On the Mound: P.J. Francescon (3-3 5.28 ERA) went six innings allowing a run on five hits and two walks. He fanned three and allowed a solo homer. RHP Austin Reed (0-0 5.85)worked two innings allowing a the tying run on two hits and a walk. LHP Frank Del Valle (2-0 1.80) tossed two shutout innings got credit for the win. He gave up a hit, walked one and recorded one strikeout.
Chattanooga 5, Tennessee 4—11 inningsChattanooga (18-27) used a wild pitch and a throwing error by Tennessee catcher Jair Fernandez to beat Tennessee (23-21) in the 11th inning.
At the Plate: Matt Szczur led off the game with a double, moved to third on Arismindy Alcantara's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Rubi Silva's groundout. Elliot Soto led off the seventh with a single, went to second on Alcantara's single, and scored on Rubi Silva's base hit, his 23rd RBI. The Smokies tied it in the eighth when they loaded the bases on a single by Tim Torres, a walk to Jonathan Mota and a single by Soto. A wild pitch scored Torres and pinch-hitter Ronald Torreyes' groundout plated Mota.

On the Mound: Matt Loosen (1-2 7.99) threw 87 pitches in just four innings allowing three runs on four hits and a walk. He fanned three and allowed a three-run homer. A. J. Morris (2-0 5.82) gave up two hits and an earned run in his inning. Tony Zych, Zach Rosscup and Trey McNutt each pitched an inning of shutout baseball. Frank Batista (1-2 2.25) worked 2.2 innings (4H, 1R, 2BB 2K) and lost he uncorked a wild pitch and Fernendez's throw went into left field when he tried to get the runner at third.
Kane County had the day off and start a three-game series at Peoria on Wednesday. OF Albert Almora, the Cubs first-round pick last year, is expected to be added to the Cougars lineup.
