Cubs June 5 Minor League Recap

Kane County's Daniel Vogelbach homered, doubled, and scored three times to help lead the Cougars to a 8-6 win over Burlington. Iowa had the day off while Daytona and Tennessee were rained out and will play doubleheaders tomorrow. Six Cougars named MWL All-Stars


Iowa had the day off and begin a five game series with Round Rock including a DH on Saturday, June 8,


Tennessee's game with Jackson was rained out and the two teams will meet at noon for a doubleheader at Smokies Park.


Daytona's game at Bradenton was postponed and a twin-bill has been scheduled for tomorrow at 5 p.m.

Kane County 7, Burlington 6

Kane County (26-30) knocked out 14 hits winning the opening game of the series at Burlington (22-31)

At the Plate: Kane County grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on Daniel Vogelbach's two-run homer scoring Albert Almora, who reached on a single. The Cougars added three more runs in the third on a RBI single from Jeimer Candelario and a two-run single from Reggie Golden (.368). A double by Carlos Escobar, a triple from Marco Hernandez and a double from Oliver Zapata put Kane County up 7-4 in the sixth. They added an insurance run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Rock Shoulders, scoring Vogelbach, who led of the inning with a double.

Cougars Lineup: Zapata LF (2-5, R, 2 2B, RBI), Almora (1-5 R), Vogelbach 1B (2-3 3R 2B HR 2RBI 2 BB), Candelario 3B (2-5 R RBI), Shoulders (2-3 BB RBI SAC FLY), Amaya 2B (0-5), Golden RF (3-4 2RBI), Escobar C (1-4 R 2B), Hernandez SS (1-4 R 3B RBI)

On the Mound: Pierce Johnson (4-4 2.95 ERA) didn't have his best stuff but kept the Cougars in the game and got the win. The right-hander worked five innings allowing four runs on five hits and two walks. Two of the runs were unearned but he did allow a pair of solo homers. Eduardo Orozco (3-3 5.03) allowed a two-run homer in his two innings with one walk and two punchouts. Felix Pena (2-0 2.17) didn't miss a beat coming off the disabled list and striking out the side in the eighth and put down the Bees in the ninth for his first save.

Cougars Notes: Six Kane County Cougars were named to the Midwest League All-Star game. DH Daniel Vogelbach, DH Rock Shoulders,, OF Bijan Rademacher, P Felix Pena, P Tayler Scott, and P Nathan Dorris were all selected to play in the June 18 game…….OF Bijan Rademacher and P Felix Pena had been taken off the DL and added to the 25-man roster. C Neftali Rosario was added to the roster from extended spring training as Wilson Contreras was placed on the inactive list as he serves a three-game suspension for bumping an umpire against Peoria on May 23. Rosario was the Cubs sixth round pick in 2011 and has spent the past two season in the Arizona Rookie League with Mesa.
