Cubs June 7 Minor League Recap

Carlos Escobar knocked in two runs including a two-out triple to drive in the go-ahead run to lead Kane County to a 3-2 win at Burlington Friday night. Iowa, Tennessee and Daytona all lost their games.

Round Rock 3, Iowa 1

Iowa (25-34) left 10 runners on base and were only 1-10 in RISP as they fell to Round Rock (35-36)

At the Plate: The I-Cubs only run of the night came on back-to-back doubles with two outs by Steve Clevenger and Junior Lake. They out hit Round Rock 8-5 and drew five walks.

Cubs Lineup: Lillibridge (3-5), Bogusevic CF (0-5), Jackson LF ((0-3 BB), Murphy SS (0-4), Clevenger 3B (1-4 R 2B), Lake RF (2-3 2B RBI BB), Nelson 1B (1-3 BB), McDonald DH (0-3), Flores C (1-2 BB), Stewart PH (0-1).

On the Mound: Chris Rusin (4-6 3.67 ERA) only allowed three hits in eight innings but one of them was a two-run homer. The lefty fanned seven and walked two throwing 103 pitches. Brian Schlitter (0-0 1.35) allowed a run on two hits in the ninth.

Mobile 6, Tennessee 1

Mobile (32-28) pounded Tennessee (31-29) pitching for 11 hits and won the opening game of the series

At the Plate: The Smokies only run of the game came on a solo homer by Jonathan Mota, his third of the season. Matt Szczur had three hits. The Smokies left eight on base and were 1-6 with RISP.

Smokies Lineup: Szczur (3-4), Torreyes 2B (1-4), Alcantara SS (102 2Bb), Villanueva 3B (0-3 BB), Lopez C (0-4), Giansanti RF (0-4), Silva CF (0-4), Mota 1B (2-4 R HR RBI), Kirk (0-2), Wright PH (1-1), Chen PH (0-1).

On the Mound: Austin Kirk (0-1 9.00 ERA) lost his first AA start this year allowing 10 hits and six runs in six innings with two walks and four strikeouts. He threw 98 pitches, 62 for strikes. Tony Zych (2-2 3.65) and Hunter Cervenka (1-0 9.53) both threw a scoreless inning of relief.

Brevard County 7, Daytona 6

Daytona (29-28) loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth but couldn't push across a run falling to Brevard County (31-27) at Jackie Robinson Park Friday night.

At the Plate: Daytona tallied two runs in the third on a sacrifice fly from John Andreoli and a RBI single from Tim Saunders. They cut the lead to 6-4 in the fifth on a RBI single from Wes Darvill and a sacrifice fly from Saunders. Dustin Geiger knocked in Javier Baez with a run scoring single in the eighth. In the final inning, Zeke DeVoss led off with a single, and took third on a single by Darvill. After Andreoli struckout, Saunders singled scoring DeVoss. Baez followed with a single loading the bases but Jorge Soler went down swinging and Geiger flew out out end the game.

On the Mound: Matt Loosen's return to the FLS didn't go as planned as he gave up seven hits and three walks surrendering six runs in five innings. He fanned four and allowed a homer. Jeffrey Lorick (2-0 3.38) yielded a run on two hits in two innings. Austin Reed (0-0 5.46) tossed two scoreless inning with a strikeout and two hits

Kane County 3, Burlington 2

Carlos Escobar's RBI triple with two out in the seventh gave Kane County (27-31) the win over Burlington (23-32)

At the Plate: The Cougars made the most of their seven hits as Jeimer Candelario hit his second homer of the year to tie the game in the fourth. Bijan Rademacher, who had two hits, doubled and scored in the fifth on Escobar's RBI single. With two outs in the seventh, Marco Hernandez singled and scored on Escobar's triple.

On the Mound: Tayler Scott (3-2 4.18 ERA) won his third game of the year as the MWL all-star worked seven innings allowing eight hits and three walks. The Bees left 10 runners on base and grounded into two double plays. Scott was charged with two runs, one earned, and didn't strikeout a hitter. Stephen Perakslis (1-2 3.19) tossed two scoreless innings yielding two hits and two walks with two strikeouts. He earned his first save and has not allowed an earned run in 14.1 innings
