AAA—Round Rock 3, Iowa 0
Mike Olt hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the 8th as Round Rock (57-45) downed Iowa (49-53)
At the Plate: Iowa was held to four hits, two by Logan Watkins (.243/.339/.392). Donnie Murphy (.264/.343/.456) doubled and Josh Vitters (.306/.383/.514) singled and walked. Vitters is 5-9 in three games since his return from the DL
On the Mound: Barret Loux (4-4 4.19 ERA/1.57 WHIP) worked around five walks and three hits in five scoreless innings. He fanned five and threw 97 pitches in one of his longest outings in two months. Alberto Cabrera made his 2013 AAA debut throwing two shutout innings with two punchouts. Brain Schlitter (0-2 2.55/1.01) had a streak of six straight games without allowing a run snapped surrendering a three-run homer in the 8th after two singles.
AA— Jacksonville 8, Tennessee 1
Tennessee (18-10) only had two hits and committed six errors in the loss to Jacksonville (15-13)
At the Plate: Arismendy Alcantara (.284/.358/.478) and Javier Baez (.216/.259/.490) doubled for Tennessee's only offense of the night. The Smokies scored in the sixth when Alcantara reached on an error, took third on Baez's double, and scored on Justin Bour's groundout.
On the Mound: The Suns pounded Tennessee pitching for 17 hits as A.J. Morris (3-1 3.61 ERA) took the loss allowing five runs, two earned, on nine hits and one walk. Kevin Rhoderick (1-3 5.40) surrendered a three-run homer while Hunter Cervenka (2IP), Tony Zych (1 IP), and infielder Nate Samson (1IP) held the Suns scoreless.
Smokies Notes: Alcantara leads the Southern League in doubles (26) and extra base hits (51).
High A—St. Lucie 7, Daytona 5
St. Lucie had six extra base hits including two homers to win the opening game of the series over Daytona at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
At the Plate: The top of the order—Zeke DeVoss, Wes Darvill, Elliot Soto— had a good night going 4-10 with five runs. Soto had two RBI while Dustin Geiger and Bijan Rademacher had one each. It was Geiger's first RBI since July 10 and his 68th of the season.
On the Mound: All three Cubs pitchers allowed runs as Ben Wells (6-6 3.45 ERA) allowed four walks and five hits in four innings. He was charged with three earned runs and fanned three. Yao-Lin Wang (3-3 3.70) took the loss giving up three runs in three innings on four hits and two walks. Lendy Castillo made his 2013 Daytona debut allowing a solo homer in two innings. He walked one and fanned four.
Cubs Notes: The team arrived back in Daytona at 6 a.m. following their 15 inning tie at Charlotte.
Low A—Kane County 6, Lansing 5—10 innings
Daniel Vogelbach had a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th to give Kane County (7-21) the win over Lansing (8-21).
At the Plate: The Cougars loaded the bases in the 10th and after Albert Almora fanned, Vogelbach (.292/.361/.412) delivered his second RBI single on the day for the win. He extended his hitting streak to 8-games and is 15-29 with 6 RBI. Hard for leadoff hitter Gioskar Amaya (.283/.352/.428) to have a better game as he went 4-4, walked once and was hit by a pitch raising his average to .283. Almora (.330/.373/.478) missed his chance to be the hero striking out with the bases loaded in the 10th but was 3-5 with a triple and a RBI. Reggie Golden (.240/.281/.397) blasted his fourth homer, a solo shot, and added a double in the 10th scoring the winning run. Jeimer Candelario (.250/.338/.378) was 2-4 and scored once. The Cougars had 16 hits, drew six walks and went 7-15 with RISP but still stranded 14 runners. Rock Shoulders (.249/.354/.463) broke a 0-21 skid since coming back from DL with a single.
On the Mound: Michael Hamann (1-0 0.00 ERA) won his first game as a pro tossing two scoreless innings of relief. Hamann, a 2012 draft pick, has not allowed an earned run in 14 IP with stops in Boise and Kane County. RHP Armando Rivero may be settling in to his role in the Kane County bullpen as the Cuban gave up a hit and two walks in 1.2 scoreless innings. He fanned two and it was his second straight scoreless outing after giving up 11 earned runs in his first nine innings. Tayler Scott made his first start since going on the DL allowing eight hits and a walk in six innings.
Short-Season—Boise 7, Everett 0
Three Boise pitchers held Everett to three hits and fanned 10 in the win.
At the Plate: Shawon Dunston had four hits for the second time this season and knocked in two runs to raise his average to .328/.411/.422. Jordan Hankins (.235/.303/.265) was 3-4 and scored twice. Lance Rymel (.318/.410/.379) extended his hitting streak to nine games going 2-4 with two runs. Cael Brockmeyer (.340/.450/.440) had two hits, including a triple and knocked in a run. David Bote (.250/.338/.476) had three RBI on a double and a single.
On the Mound: James Pugliese (3-2 2.41 ERA/1.00 WHIP) continues to impress in the NWL adding five more scoreless innings to his resume. He allowed two hits and fanned three in his seventh start. Tyler Skulina (0-0 0.00/0.60) may need to find a league that poises a challenge as the right-hander extended his scoreless streak to 10 innings tossing two more frames with five strikeouts. Michael Wagner (0-0 2.25/1/25) closed out the game pitching the final two innings allowing a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.

Arizona Rookie League— Dodgers 10, Cubs 9—10 innings
The Cubs made seven errors that led to six unearned runs in an extra-inning loss to the Dodgers.
At the Plate: The big news out of Mesa was the pro debut of 3B Kris Bryant, the Cubs first-round pick and # 2 overall selection. Bryant went 0-3 and committed three errors, two throwing and one fielding. Francisco Sanchez hit a three-run homer (1) and scored three times. 1B Mark Malave, an 18-year-old 2011 July 2 signing, was hitting .212 coming into the game but went 3-5 to up his average to .263. David DeJesus was 1-4 with a double and a run in his second rehab start in Mesa. Jacob Hannemann, Cubs third-round pick, was back in action after going on the DL in Boise, with a two-run double and a run. Greg Rohan made his 2013 debut after starting the year on the DL going 1-4 with a run and a RBI.
On the Mound: LHP Anthony Prieto was charged with five runs in 3.1 innings as the second-year pro is looking to get on track. He only allowed two hits and walked two with three strikeouts. Zak Hermans (1.2 IP) and Luis Villalba (2 IP) bot allowed an unearned run and Trey Lang got charged with a blown save surrendering two runs in the eighth. Orbandy Rodriguez fanned the side in the ninth and another error in the 10th, the Cubs' seventh of the game, gave Juan Francisco the loss.
Cubs Notes: David DeJesus has been sent to Arizona for a rehab stint. Jacob Hannemann was assigned to Arizona after coming off the DL in Boise and Kris Bryant was assigned to the roster.
Dominican Summer League—Cubs
Another day off for the Cubs. The Cubs (28-12) are in first place in the Boca Chica South with a five-game lead over the Cardinals.
Venezuelan Summer League—Mariners 7, Cubs 6
The Mariners snapped the Cubs 10-game winning streak even though the Cubs out hit the M's 14-6
At the Plate: The Cubs had 14 hits but went 3-12 with RISP and left 10 on base. Miguel Rico (.222/.321/.407) led the attack with three hits while Bryant Flete (.297/.410/.390), Delbis Arcila (.321/.389/.523), Roney Alcala (.330/.364/.497), and Robert Vahlis (.219/.315/.375) all had two hits. Jesus Gonzalez (.103/.257/.207) added a two-run double.
On the Mound: First-year pro Enrique De Los Rios (2-0 1.21 ERA) got the start tossing five innings in his ninth game. The 18-year-old allowed three runs on three hits and two walks with four punchouts and left with a 5-3 lead. The Cubs bullpen couldn't hold the lead as Moises Ramirez (0-0 3.00) allowed a run in the sixth and Augusto Colina (0-1 2.53/ was charged with three unearned runs in a third of an inning. The Cubs committed four errors and only three of the runs were earned.
