Hatley earns save in debut

Cubs AA relief pitcher Marcus Hatley made his Mexican League debut Saturday night earning a save in Culiacan's 3-1 win over Mazatlan.

Arizona Fall League

There were no games in the AFL did hold its first-ever Bowman Hitting Challenge where hitters were given two minutes to rack up as many points as they could hitting homers and other targets on the field. The Cubs participant was 2012 first-round pick Albert Almora as he competed against 29 other hitters, one from each team. The Yankees Peter O'Brien won the competition and Almora didn't place in the top three of the National League.

The Arizona Fall League has Sunday off and return to the field on Monday as Mesa (3-0) travels to Scottsdale (1-3).

Mexican League

The Mexican League got into full swing on Saturday. RHP Marcus Hatley, who recently re-signed minor league deal with the Cubs, is pitching for Culiacan. Hatley, the Cubs 39th round pick in 2006, pitched for Tennessee (1-2 3.00 ERA, 14 G, 18 IP, 2 SV) and Iowa (3-2 4.22, 35G, 42.2 IP, 49K) in 2013. The 25-year-old made his Mexican League debut Saturday night, earning the save in Culiacan's 3-1 win over Mazatlan. He tossed a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts, throwing 15 pitches, 10 for strikes.

Christian Villanueva, who earned all-star honors in the AA Southern League this year at third base, is no longer listed on the Yaquis de Obregon roster.

Venezuelan League

Loiger Padron made his Venezuelan League debut Saturday night working two innings of relief in Caracas 9-8 loss to Aragua. The 22-year-old right-hander allowed a run on two hits and fanned two in the 25-pitch outing. Padron appeared in 13 games for Boise in 2013 (2-4 5.87 ERA, 38.1 IP, 20 BB, 32K).
