Castillo records save, Mesa still rolling

Lendy Castillo earned his first save of the AFL season as Mesa (6-0) remained undefeated beating Peoria 3-1. Castillo was the Cubs Rule 5 pick two years ago, taken from the Phillies organization.

Arizona Fall League—Cubs Prospects

3B Kris Bryant and 2B Wes Darvill got the start on Wednesday afternoon as Mesa improved to 6-0 with a 3-1 win over Peoria. Bryant (.381) was 0-3 with a walk, two strikeouts, and his second stolen base. Making his second start, Darvill (.375) went 1-4 and helped turn a pair of double plays.

Lendy Castillo (0-0 3.00 ERA) earned his first save despite allowing a double and an infield single to start the ninth. The right-hander got a double play started by Darvill and then fanned the next hitter to strand the runner at third. Castillo threw 18 pitches, 11 for strikes in his third AFL appearance.

Venezuelan Winter League—Cubs Prospects

Dave Sappelt went 0-3 with a walk in Margarita's 6-1 loss to Aragua. Sappelt is 1-7 in two games.

Loiger Padron pitched a scoreless inning in Caracas' 11-2 win over Caribes. He allowed a hit in the outing, his second of the season (0-0 3.00 ERA, 3IP, 2K).

Mexican Pacific Winter League—Cubs Prospects

Marcus Hatley pitched in his third game fanning two while allowing a hit in relief. Hatley has six strikeouts in 2.2 innings and has yet to allow an earned run, although four unearned runs accounted for a blown save.

David Villegas made his second appearance of the Mexican League and the 21-year-old is having trouble finding the strike zone. Pitching the eighth inning, Villegas walked two, allowed two hits and surrendered two runs in his inning of work in the 12-0 loss to Guasave. He's given up three runs in 1.1 innings in two games.
