Bryant blast two homers

Kris Bryant smacked a pair of homers, doubled, and knocked in four runs but it wasn't enough as Mesa lost its first game of the year to Surprise 11-9.

Arizona Fall League—Cubs Prospects

Cubs 2013 first-round pick Kris Bryant (.423/.448/.962) continued his assault on Arizona Fall League pitching on Friday going 3-5 with two homers, a double, and four RBI. Bryant is 11-26 with four homers, 12 RBI, and 25 total bases, all tops in the AFL.

Albert Almora (.417/.440/.792) is proving he's human as he went 1-6 with a double and is two for his last 10. A hit in all five games, the 19-year-old was 8-14 in his first three games.

Jorge Soler (.226/.226/.323) recorded his first multi-hit game and extended his hitting streak to six games. Soler had two singles and a RBI.

Armando Rivero (0-1 4.50 ERA) took the loss allowing two runs on two hits and a walk. One of the runs was unearned. River threw 23 pitched in the ninth, 12 for strikes. Dallas Beeler made his second start but allowed three runs in the top of the first and finished with a line of 3IP, 6H, 3ER, 2BB 1K. Beeler threw 59 pitches, 38 for strikes

Venezuelan Winter League—Cubs Prospects

Yeiper Castillo, earned his first hold of the season pitching 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed two hits, walked one, and recorded one strikeout. Castillo lowered his ERA to 5.79 after a pair of tough outings.

Loiger Padron, Caracas, had his best outing of the VWL tossing 1.2 frames of shutout ball, allowing one hit. Padron lowered his ERA to 1.93 in three games, 4.2 IP.

Dominican Winter League—Cubs Prospects

Arismendy Alcantara was 0-5 in his DWL debut for Licey. Alcantara played second base, helping out on a pair of double plays. Julio Borbon went 0-1 as he pinch hit in the 7th and finished the game in left field. Licey lost to Escogido 4-1.
