Soler has three hits in Mesa's win

Jorge Soler had three hits on Thursday to extend his hitting streak to eight games in the Arizona Fall League while starting pitcher Dallas Beeler picked up his second win. Catching prospect Wilson Contreras made his first start in the VWL, collecting a pair of hits.

Arizona Fall League

Jorge Soler extended his hitting streak to eight games in the AFL, going 3-3 with two RBI in Mesa's 7-4 win over Scottsdale. Soler is now hitting .282 with 7 RBI, and was the only Cub in the lineup on Thursday.

It was the Cubs show on the mound for the first seven innings Thursday afternoon at HoHoKam Park as Dallas Beeler, Matthew Loosen and Lendy Castillo all toed the rubber. Beeler got the start and earned his second win, allowing two runs on four hits in four innings. He fanned two and allowed a homer in his 48 pitch outing. Loosen worked two innings but was also victim to the long ball. He surrendered two hits but fanned three of the eight hitters he faced. Castillo worked around two walks in the seventh, holding the Scorpions off the board with a strikeout.

Venezuelan Winter League

Yeiper Castillo came into the game in relief in the first inning after the first five hitters of the game all reached. The right-hander gave up two hits and two of the inherited runners scored but Castillo followed yup with three scoreless fames of one-hit ball. He fanned five and didn't walk a hitter, lowering his ERA to 2.38.

Wilson Contreras (Kane County) made his first start in the VWL going 2-5 with two singles and run in Aragua's 6-5 win over Guaria. Contreras caught all nine innings and allowed one passed ball and threw out a base staler.

Dominican Winter League

Arismendy Alcantara went 1-4 with a run and a walk hitting leadoff for Licey in their 6-4 win over Gigantes. The 21-year-old is 3-18 in four games.

Mexican Pacific Winter League

Christian Villanueva was 0-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in Obregon's 3-1 win over Los Mochis. Villanueva, who's expected to start 2014 in AAA Iowa, has two homers and is hitting .286

Arizona Fall League

Wes Darvill is making the most of his two games a week as he delivered the only run for Mesa on Wednesday, with a RBI single in the sixth to give the Solar Sox a 1-0 lead. Darvill (.250) went 1-4 and was replaced in right field in the ninth by Albert Almora in the 2-1 10-inning loss. Almora did not bat.

DH Kris Bryant (.405) drilled his fourth double of the season in the first but was hitless in his final four at-bats, including a pair of strikeouts.

Dominican Winter League

2B Arismendy Alcantara hit leadoff in Licey's 7-4 win over Estrellas. Alcantara recorded his first two hits of the DWL, going 2-5 with a double and a run scored.

Marcos Mateo pitched an inning of scoreless relief for Estrellas allowing a single in the eighth. It was Mateo's third game of the year and he has yet to allow a run in three innings.

Frank Batista saw his first action in the DWL. Pitching 1.1 frames in Aguilas' 8-0 loss to Escogido. He walked one and recorded a punchout, stranding both runners he inherited in the fifth.

Mexican Pacific Winter League

DH Christian Villanueva (.333) blasted his second homer, added a double and scored twice in Obregon 8-3 loss to Mochis. Villanueva hit a solo shot in the third and doubled in the eighth.

Marcus Hatley threw a scoreless ninth in Culiacan's 1-0 loss to Hermosillo. Hatley (0-0 1.59 ERA) allowed a hit and fanned one in his 10-pitch frame.
