Mesa looks for ring

The Mesa Solar Sox (19-11-1) won their final seven games of the season, hanging on for a 1/2 game lead, despite Salt Rive (19-12) winning their final eight games. Kris Bryant capped off his AFL season going 1-3 and scoring three times in Mesa's 9-3 win. They face Surprise (18-12-1) on Saturday, Nov. 16 for the one-game championship match-up.

Arizona Fall League

Nov. 14—Kris Bryant was 1-3 and finished the AFL season hitting .364. Bryant walked twice and scored three times in the decision clinching win. Jorge Soler was 2-5 and ended the year hitting .271, and got a hit in 18 of the 20 game he played in. Albert Almora was 0-1 and left the game in the bottom of the third.

Nov. 13—Matthew Loosen (2-1 3.29 ERA) got credit for the win as the right-hander blanked Surprise for two innings despite allowing two hits, three walks, a balk and walk pitch. Loosen threw 42 pitches, only 19 for strikes, in the 3-2 win. Jorge Soler double adn waled in four plate appearances while Albert Almora went 1-4. Wes Darvill played left field and was 0-3.

Venezuelan Winter League

Nov. 14—Luis Valbuena made his VWL debut on Thursday going 2-4 with a double and a run scored in Lara's 5-3 win over Aragua.

Yeiper Castillo pitched for the second day in a row and was charged with a blown save, allowing a run on three hits and a walk in 2.1 innings. Castillo fanned four, throwing 47 pitches in the outing. Zulia lost to Caracas 2-1 in 10 innings.

Nov. 13—Yeiper Castillo faced four hitters and only got one of them out as he allowed three hits and two runs in Zulia's 6-5 loss to Margarita.

Hector Rondon allowed his first earned runs as the right-hander surrendered three hits, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the tenth. Caracas scored three times in the bottom of the inning off Lara, making Rondon the winner. Rondon threw 19 pitches, 13 for strikes, and fanned one batter.

Dominican Winter League

Nov. 14—No games scheduled.

Nov. 13—Junior Lake was 3-5 with two singles and his second homer, a first inning solo shot with two outs. Estrellas won the game 5-4 in 10 innings. RHP Frank Batista got charged with the blown save allowing two hits in the 10th (one bunt single from Lake), the second knocking in the wining run.

Arismendy Alcantara struck out as a pinch hitter in Licey's 3-2 loss to Toros.

Mexican Pacific Winter League

Nov. 14—Christian Villanueva was 1-4 with a single in Obregon's 6-5 loss.

Marcus Hatley earned his fifth save despite giving up a run on two hits in the ninth of Culiacan's 6-4 win over Navojoa. Hatley needed 25 pitches to get out of the ninth, allowing a homer with a strikeout.

Nov. 13—Christian Villanueva went 1-3 with a walk as Obregon lost 6-3. He was the Dh and is now hitting . 254.

Puerto Rican Winter League

Nov. 14—SS Edwin Maysonet had a pair of singles in Santurce's 5-4 win over Ponce and is hitting .303 on the season. Jonathan Mota (.214) was 1-3 with a RBI double and a walk for Ponce.

Nov. 13—Jonathan Mota was 0-3 with two walks in Ponce's 6-5 loss to Caguas in 13 innings. Daniel Bard (0-0 108.0 ERA) made his second appearance for Caguas but it was just as bad as his first although he did get one hitter out. He walked the other three batters he faced and was charged with two earned runs.

SS Edwin Maysonet was 0-5 in Santurce's 4-2 loss to Mayaguez in 11 innings. Maysonet (.276) hit second in the lineup after spending most of the season at the bottom of the order in his first eight games.
