Nov. 17-18 Cubs Recap

Here's the recap from the past two days for games in the Caribbean Leagues.

Venezuelan Winter League

Nov. 18—Yeiper Castillo allowed three runs, one earned, in his inning of work in Zulia's 6-2 loss to La Guaria. He surrendered two hits, including a solo home. Nov. 17—2B Luis Valbuena was 2-5 and knocked in his first run of the season in Lara's 9-8 loss to Caracas.

Dominican Winter League

Nov. 18— No Cubs prospects saw action. Nov. 17—Marcos Mateo pitched around two hits in the ninth to earn his fifth save in Estrellas 3-0 win over Toros. Mateo is 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA with 11 K in 13.1 IP. Junior Lake was 0-3 and is now hitting .333 in 13 games. Julio Borbon was 2-2 with a walk in Licey's 4-0 loss to Escogido. Borbon ins hitting .226.

Mexican Pacific Winter League

Nov. 18—No Cubs prospects saw action. Nov. 17—Christian Villanueva singled in two at-bats before being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the 8th inning of Obregon's 4-3 loss to Hermosillo in 10 innings. SS Walter Ibarra was 0-2 with a sacrifice in Mazatlan's 5-1 loss to Mexicali.

Puerto Rican Winter League

Nov. 18—Jonathan Mota was 0-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in Ponce's 4-1 loss to Mayaguez. Nov. 17—Jonathan Mota went 2-4 and scored twice in Ponce's 4-3 loss to Carolina. Mota is hitting .229 in 11 games and has played three infield positions.
