Nov. 27 Cubs Recap

Alberto Cabrera, who could start 2014 in the Cubs bullpen at Wrigley, made his second appearance in the DWL on Wednesday.

Venezuelan Winter League

Paolo Espino made his first start since signing with the Cubs, as the right-hander got charged with four unearned runs and took the loss as Caribes' fell to Aragua 8-6. Espino worked 3.2 innings, allowing six hits and a walk with two strikeouts. The 24-year-old pitched shutout ball for three innings but surrendered four runs in the fourth after a two-out error—allowing two hits and a walk after the miscue.

2B Luis Valbuena doubled and scored in Lara's 6-1 win over Margarita in the first game of the DH. Valbuena was 1-4 with a pair of strikeouts in the second game that was suspended in the bottom of the seventh with Lara leading 5-2.

Dominican Winter League

RHP Alberto Cabrera retired all three hitters he faced but a wild pitch on strikeout allowed a runner to reach, who eventually scored on a two-run homer after Cabrera was replaced. It was Cabrera's second appearance of the season for the Toros, who lost 6-5 to Aguilas.

OF Julio Borbon tripled, walked twice, and scored in three trips to the plate in Licey's 4-3 win over Gigantes. 2B Arismendy Alcantara was 1-3 and knocked in a run in the win.

CF Junior Lake singled in four at-bats in Estrellas' 5-1 loss to Escogido, and is hitting .342.

Mexican Pacific Winter League

SS Walter Ibarra was 2-3 with a double in Mazatlan's 8-0 loss to Los Mochis. Ibarra has hit in six of his last seven games and is batting .183.

Puerto Rican Winter League

SS Edwin Maysonet (.302) was 2-3 in Santurce's 3-2 loss to Caguas. Maysonet is technically a free agent but played last year for AAA Iowa.
