Dec. 3 Cubs Recap

OF Darnell McDonald made his debut in the Mexican Pacific Winter League on Tuesday night going 1-2 for Obregon. McDonald was signed to a minor league contract in November. Junior Lake (.362) moved back in the lead for the DWL batting title with three hits.

Mexican Pacific Winter League

Darnell McDonald made his debut for Obregon on Tuesday night (12-9 win), going 1-2 with two runs and a RBI. McDonald, who signed a minor league contract with the Cubs on Nov. 22, played right field. The seven-year MLB vet plated a run in the first with a sacrifice fly and was hit by a pitch in the fourth, scoring on a bases loaded walk. He singled in the fifth, walked and scored in the sixth, struckout in the seventh, and was replaced on defense for the final two innings. The 35-year-old hit .302/.351/.434 in 57 plate appearances for Chicago last season after an Aug. 10 call-up. He spent most of the season at AAA Iowa batting .236/.307/.346 with 4 HR and 26 RBI in 92 games.

SS Walter Ibarra went 1-3 with a walk in Mazatlan's 4-1 loss to Navojoa.

Dominican Winter League

Junior Lake (.362) moved back in the lead for the batting title going 3-4 with a double and a RBI in Estrellas' 4-3 loss to Aguilas. Lake was thrown out trying to steal second, the third time he's been caught.

Puerto Rican Winter League

3B Jonathan Mota was 1-4 with a run scored in Ponce's 9-3 win over Santurce. SS Edwin Maysonet was 0-4 with two strikeouts for Santurce.

Venezuelan Winter League

No games scheduled.
