New Orleans scored the game's only run on the second pitch of the game, a solo homer, and Zephyers' pitching retired 22 I-Cubs in a row in the shutout.
At the Dish: Iowa only managed two hits, a first inning single by Chris Valaika and a ninth inning base knock by Logan Watkins. Josh Vitters walked after Valiaka's single and was the last base runner until the ninth.
On the Hill: Tsuyoshi Wada (2-1, 0.84) took the loss as his second pitch of the game left the park. He only allowed two more hits over eight innings with five strikeouts and a walk. He threw 101 pitches, 69 for strikes, and got nine fly ball outs......Marcus Hatley allowed a single in a scoreless ninth.
I-Cubs Notes: Chris Rusin (0-2, 6.52 ERA) makes his first start since returning from the big leagues in his emergency appearance against St. Louis. The I-Cubs host Round Rock at 7:05 p.m. CST.
AA—Jackson 5, Tennessee 2
Jackson scored five runs in the top of the ninth to beat the Smokies for the second time in the series with a ninth-inning rally.
At the Dish: Tennessee took a 1-0 lead in the fifth when Jeudy Valdez singled but was thrown out trying to score on John Andreoli's double. Andreoli took third on the throw and after Stephen Bruno was hit by a pitch, stole home. Kris Bryant continues to be impressive at the plate as he went 2-4 and blasted his fourth homer, a solo shot in the sixth for a 2-0 lead. Bryant has reached base in all 14 games and is hitting .286/.455/.643....Valdez finished with two hits and Rubi Silva added a single.....
On the Hill: Despite the loss, Ivan Pineyro was dominating on the mound for 6.2 innings as the right-hander threw 90 pitches in his third start. He fanned eight and only allowed two hits and a walk. Pineyro does a great job at pounding the strike zone and has one of the better change-ups in the organization.......Ryan Searle (1-1, 6.23 ERA) got the final out of the seventh, worked a 1-2-3 eighth, but couldn't overcome a pair of walks to start the ninth. The Generals added two doubles and two singles off Searle before the inning was over, scoring five times.
Daytona was rained out and will play a doubleheader beginning at 5:05 p.m. EST. Yao-Lin Wang will start the first game of the twin-bill.
Low A—Dayton 9, Kane County 0
Dayton snapped the Cougars' eight-game winning streak with a 9-0 win between the top two teams in the Midwest League.
At the Dish: Kane County was shutout for the first time and one day after scoring 13 runs on 19 hits......Dayton pitching held KC to five hits, all singles, and one walk......Kane County hit into three double plays.....SS Carlos Penalver was 1-2 with two walks and is hitting .302.
On the Hill: Juan Paniagua got in trouble early Dayton opened with a walk ad a single, both runs scoring by the time the inning saws through. Another walk in the second scored on one of Dayton's three extra-base hits off Paniagua. They added two more in the fifth on a two-run homer. He finished with a line of 5 IP, 6H, 5 ER, 4 BB, 1K........Justin Amlung threw 1.2 frames and allowed four runs on two doubles and a homer......Josh Davis threw got the final four outs, allowing a hit and one strikeout.
