Cubs April 24 Minor League Recap

Kane County scored seven runs in the bottom of the ninth as they rallied from a 7-0 deficit to beat Beloit 10-8. Daniel Vogelbach was 4-4 with his second homer to lead Daytona to a 7-5 win. Iowa blanked Colorado Springs behind another solid outing from Tsuyoshi Wada and Tennessee fell to Huntsville 3-1.

AAA—Iowa 9, Colorado Springs 0

Iowa banged out 14 hits and scored in five straight innings as Tsuyoshi Wada tossed five shutout innings for his third win.

At the Dish: Chris Valaika (.382) led the offense with four hits, scored four times and knocked in a run.....Logan Watkins (.293) extended his hitting streak to 10 games going 1-3 with three runs, two walks, and stole his third base......Christian Villanueva had 3 RBI and Eli Whiteside added a two-run double......Chris Coghlan (.237) went 2-5 and knocked in a run......

On the Hill: Tyuyoshi Wada tossed five shutout innings, lowering his ERA to 0.68. The left-hander allowed four hits, walked one and fanned six in his 55-pitch outing.....Alberto Cabrera tossed two perfect innings, retiring all six hitter he face, four on strikes...... Eduardo Figueroa closed out the game allowing one hit over the final two innings with two strikeouts.....Iowa pitchers fanned 12 Sky Sox hitter with one walk.

I-Cubs Notes: Chris Rusin (0-3 6.32 ERA) will be looking for his first win this season as he get the start Friday.



AA—Huntsville 3, Tennessee 1

Tennessee was held to four hits as the Stars took the first game of the series at Smokies Park.

At the Dish: An RBI double by Luis Flores plated Stephen Bruno with the only run of the game for Tennessee.....Kris Bryant was 1-3 with a double and a walk and has reached base in all 20 games to start the season. He also owns a seven-game hitting streak. Bruno was 2-4 with a triple.

On the Hill: Ivan Pineyro (0-2, 2.33 ERA) allowed a leadoff homer and ended the night throwing 96 pitches in five innings. He only allowed one more run on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts.....Hunter Cervenka fanned four in two innings and gave up a run on two hits and walk....Armando Rivero worked two scoreless frames but walked three and needed a perfect throw from left field from Anthony Giansanti to keep Huntsville off board in 8th.

Smokies Notes: RHP C.J. Edwards traveled to Chicago to have his right shoulder looked at after feeling discomfort after a bullpen session on Wednesday. He met with doctors on Thursday and is expected to have a MRI on Friday.......Matt Loosen gets the start on Friday night for the Smokies.



High A—Daytona 7, Brevard County 3

Daytona won for the fourth time in five games as Daniel Vogelbach went 4-4 and hit his second homer of the season

At the Dish: Vogelbach had three singles against the shift to the opposite field and then launched a long bomb over the right field wall for his second homer. He scored twice, knocked in two runs and upped his average to .203.....Gioskar Amaya stayed red hot going 2-3 with a RBI. He's hitting .519....Albert Almora (.284) was 2-4 with a double and a run scored......Marco Hernandez upped his average to .333 and knocked in two runs with two hits, including a double.......Willson Contreras added a RBI single.

On the Hill: Yao-Lin Wang allowed three runs in the first two innings but blanked the manatees in the next two frames and finished with aline of 4 IP, 3H, 3ER, 4BB 2K........Ben Wells (1-1 2.16 ERA) picked up the win in relief, throwing 69 pitches in three shutout innings. He allowed two hits, two walks, fanned one and got seven ground ball outs...... Stephen Perakslis pitched around a hit and a walk in the 8th with the help of double play........Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with no one out, but Arodys Vizcaino fanned the next two hitters and got a line out to short to end the game.

D-Cubs Notes: Felix Pena (1-3, 1.38 ERA) looks to make it five start quality starts as he takes the ball on Friday night at Brevard County.



Low A—Kane County 10, Beloit 8

A sacrifice fly by Jacob Rogers scored Jacob Hannemann to put Kane County ahead as the Cougars sent 12 men to the plate in a seven-run 8th, rallying from a 7-0 deficit for the comeback win.

At the Dish: Kane County was held scoreless the first five frames but scored three times in the sixth, two coming on Jordan Hankins' two-run single. Will Remillard walked with the bases loaded to plate the other run.....Singles by Rogers and David Bote started the big innings and Hankins got hit to load the bases. Trey Martin double off the wall, plating two runs and Shawon Dunston followed with RBI infield single. Hannemann walked to load the bases and Daniel Lockhart double, scoring two runs and tying the game at 8-8. Rogers hit a sacrifice fly and then Lockhart scored the final run on a wild pitch.....Kane County had 10 hits and eight walks as Hannemann and Martin were both 2-4

On the Hill: Josh Davis made the start as Daury Torrez was a late scratch from the lineup. Davis gave up six runs, only three earned as the Cougars committed four errors on the night. He allowed seven hits and fanned two......Jose Arias allowed an unearned run in two frames, allowing two hits and walks with two strikeouts......Tyler Bremer fanned six in his three innings and got the win after the Cougars rallied in the 8th Bremer allowed a run in eighth on a hit and walk.... Zack Godley recorded his fourth save retiring the side in order with the help of a diving play in center field by Hannemann.

Cougars Notes: Juan Paniagua is scheduled to start for Kane County on Friday night, the first game of the series with Wisconsin.
