Cubs May 2 Minor League Recap

Tennessee used a six-run inning sot beat Chattanooga for the third straight time while Kane County took advantage of a throwing error for a walk-off win. Iowa came up short at Nashville and Daytona was rained out, again.

AAA—Nashville 4, Iowa 3

Nashville broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the sixth and hung on for the victory.

At the Dish: I-Cubs didn't get on the board until the 7th on RBI singles from Christian Villanueva and Edgar Gonzalez. Logan Watkins ripped a RBI double in the ninth to cut the lead to one and put two runners in scoring position, but the final two hitters fanned. Chris Valiaka went 2-3 with a pair of doubles and Watkins had two hits.....Javier Baez was 0-4 with two strikeouts.

On the Hill: Chris Rusin (1-4 4.71) was cruising along tossing five innings of shutout ball but ran into trouble in the sixth, allowing three runs. He finished the night with five strikeouts but yielded five hits and three walks......Eduardo Figueroa allowed a run in the seventh in his only inning and Marcos Mateo pitched a scoreless 8th.

AA— Tennessee 8, Chattanooga 7

Tennessee scored six times in the sixth and hung on for their third straight win over the Lookouts.

At the Dish: A pinch-hit two-run single by Anthony Giansanti and a bases loaded double by Stephen Bruno were the big hits in the sixth. The Smokies were helped by four walks in the inning, including one with the bases loaded. An error allow the final run to score. John Andreoli had three hits and knocked in a pair of runs in the second. Bruno finished with two hits and Rubi Silva was 1-3 with two runs scored.

On the Hill: Armando Rivero earned his sixth save retiring the final four hitters he faced, one on strikes......Austin Kirk recorded the win in relief, getting the final two outs of the fifth, one on strikes.......Jeffrey Lorick recorded his third hold despite giving up two runs, only one earned. Lorick fanned three and walked two.......Dae-Eun Rhee got the start and allowed five runs in 4.1 innings. He surrendered six hits and fanned five.

High A—Daytona

Was rained out for the second straight day and will try to play a twin bill on Saturday.

Low A—Kane County 3, Burlington 2

A throwing error in the bottom of the 11th gave Kane County the win over Burlington.

At the Dish: After two outs in the 11th, Jordan Hankins doubled and scored on David Bote's grounder to third as the throw bounced in the dirt and past the first baseman. Kane County took a 2-0 lead in the first as both runs scored on groundouts after two Bees' errors. Bote finished the game with two of the Cougars seven hits.

On the Hill: Tyler Bremer tossed two scoreless innings of relief to earn his third win . He allowed two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.........Justin Amlung blanked Burlington for four frames. He fanned four and gave up four hits and a walk........Duane Underwood worked five inning in his fourth start, allowing two runs, both scoring on a homer in the second. Underwood fanned three and walked three.

Cougars Notes: Cougars activated James Pugliese from the DL and sent RHP Josh Davis back to extended spring training.
