AAA—Iowa 5, New Orleans 4—11 innings
Josh Vitters hit a pair of homers but it was a wild pitch in the 11th that gave Iowa the win in New Orleans.
At the Dish: Josh Vitters made it three games in a row with a homer as he hit a two-run shot in the second and then added another two-run blast in the fourth.....Iowa scored the winning run in the 11th when Logan Watkins singled and took third on Arismendy Alcantara's base hit. With Javer Baez at the plate, a wild pitch scored Watkins......Iowa fanned 17 times and walked once.....Watkins and Chris Valaika both finished with two hits.....Javier Baez (.141) as 0-4 with two strikeouts and a walk.
On the Hill: Tsuyoshi Wada (4-1 1.21) gave up a pair of homers and three runs in his six innings. Kinda tough to call it his worse outing of the season but that just shows how dominate he has been in his first five starts. He threw 87 pitches, 54 for strikes, and fanned one while allowing two walks......Carlos Pimentel has been relegated to the bullpen with the addition of Dallas Beeler and the right-hander made his first relief appearance. He threw three no-hit innings with three strikeouts....Zac Rosscup collected his first win with a 1-2-3 10th......Marcos Mateo got his second save despite walking two in the 11th.
AA—Tennessee 4, Birmingham 1
Anthony Giansanti's solo homer in the seventh gave the Smokies the lead for good in their second straight win over Birmingham.
At the Dish: Tennessee pounded out 11 hits but didn't get on the board until the sixth. Charlie Cutler's two-out single tied the game and Giansanti led off the seventh with a blast to left field. Wes Darvill added a sac fly scoring Jae-Hoon Ha, who singled and reached third on a single by John Andreoli and a walk to Stephen Bruno. Ha' added a RBI bunt single in the 8th for the Smokies final run. Bruno was 3-3 with a double while Cutler and Ha finished with two hits.
On the Hill: Matthew Loosen fanned seven and tossed five solid innings, holding the Barons to one run on four hits and two walks. Loosen threw 95 pitches, 60 for strikes......The Smokies bullpen blanked Birmingham the final four frames......Jose Veras made a rehab appearance after going on the DL for Chicago with a strained oblique. The right-hander worked a 1-2-3 sixth with a punchout.....Ryan Searle earned the win, tossing two scoreless innings with three hits and a strikeout......Tony Zych got two outs in the ninth but after two hits, gave way to Hunter Cervenka, who fanned the final hitter for his first save.
High A—Lakeland 5, Daytona 1
Daytona was held to four hits and Lakeland scored five times in the second.
On the Hill: Tayler Scott (2-3 4.40 ERA) only allowed four hits in 4.2 innings but was the victim of five walks as Lakeland scored five times in the second off the right-hander. Starling Peralta fanned six in 3.1 shutout frames and Austin Reed pitched a 1-2-3 ninth with a strikeout.
D-Cubs Notes: Rob Zastryzny (1-2 8.46 ERA) will be on the mound Wednesday night. The left-hander has surrendered at least four runs in four of his five starts and the FSL is hitting .352.....Arodys Vizcaino was promoted to AA Tennessee and Zack Godley joined the D-Cubs from Kane County.
Low A—Kane County 8, Wisconsin 2
Kane County continued its dominance at home as they won their 11th straight, beating the Timber Rattlers for the second straight night to improve to a MWL best 23-9.
At the Dish: Will Remillard counties to scorch MWL hitting, going 3-3 with two doubles and four RBI, including a bases loaded doubled. Remillard is 18-36 in his last 10 games with 16 RBI........David Bote went 0-3 but did knock in the first two runs of the game with a groundout and a sac fly.....Jacob Rogers doubled, walked twice, and scored three times.....Yasiel Balaguert went 1-3, walked twice, and scored two runs........Cougars drew seven walks and only fanned once.
On the Hill: Daury Torrez (4-1, 3.38 ERA) made his sixth start and tossed a solid six innings, allowing two runs on four hits. The right-hander walked one, recorded a pair of strikeouts, and got eight ground ball outs. Torrez has been impressive in the MWL as the 20-year-old pitches in his first full season........Jose Arias was dominate for two innings as he retired all six hitters he faced, three on strikes for his third hold.....James Pugliese pitched around a hit and a walk in the ninth, keeping the Rattlers off the board.
Cougars Notes: Kane County looks to sweep the home stand as Juan Paniagua (0-1 5.31 ERA) gets the start with an 11 a.m. start CST.......With Zack Godley promoted to Daytona, RHP Michael Wagner, the Cubs 15th round pick last year out of San Diego, was added to the roster from extended spring training.
