Cubs May 10 Minor League Recap

Stephen Bruno had a career night with two homers and four RBI as Tennessee beat Jackson. Jordan Hankins delivered the game winning RBI for the second straight night as Kane County swept Burlington. Daytona and Iowa both lost.

AAA—Nashville 10, Iowa 1

Nashville won the opening game of the series pounding Iowa pitching for 18 hits.

At the Dish: Iowa had nine hits but were just 1-10 with RISP and fanned 14 times.....The only run of the night came in the 8th when Arismendy Alcantara doubled and scored on a two-out single by Josh Vitters.......Christian Villanueva was 2-4 and Matt Szczur and Luis Flores both doubled.

On the Hill: Not a good night on the mound for Iowa pitching as Nashville scored in seven of the nine innings.....Eric Jokisch (2-3 4.39 ERA) got tagged for nine hits, two leaving the yard. He was charged with six runs, five earned, walked one, and recorded five strikeouts in his 75-pitch, four-inning outing.....Jeffry Antigua held Nashville to one run over three innings as he fanned four.....Marcus Hatley surrendered a run in the eighth and Marcos Mateo allowed two to score in the 9th.

I-Cubs Notes: Dallas Beeler makes his second start with a 1:05 CST start in Des Moines.

AA—Tennessee 10, Jackson 6

Stephen Bruno had four hits, homered twice, and knocked in four runs as Tennessee outslugged Jackson in the opening game of the series.

At the Dish: Tennessee pounded out 18 hits, four from Bruno, who also doubled, singled and stole a base......Smokies got on the board in the first as Bruno (.312) doubled and scored on Kris Bryant's base hit up the middle. After taking second on the throw home, Bryant scored easily when Jorge Soler ripped a double down the left field line......Bruno slugged his second homer of the season, a two-run shot in the third and Jeudy Valdez (.247) tied the game in the fourth with his third homer, a solo shot.......The Smokies took a 7-5 lead in the fifth as Taylor Davis (.294) delivered a two-out, two-run single scoring Rubi Silva (.252) and Dustin Geiger (.220)......Bryant (.320) added a solo shot in the 8th and Bruno capped off the scoring with another two-run homer in the ninth....Silva and Valdez both finished with three hits....John Andreoli (.300) went 2-4 with two walks to extend his on-base streak to 29 games.

On the Hill: Ivan Pineyro only lasted four innings as the right-hander gave up nine hits and six earned runs, including a three-run homer. He fanned one, walked one, and threw 68 pitches.....P.J. Francescon improved to 4-1 with three shutout innings. Francescon only gave up a hit and struckout a a pair in his 28 pitch outing, 22 for strikes....Hunter Cervenka pitched a scoreless eight and Armando Rivero finished off the Generals in the 9th.

Smokies Notes: Matthew Loosen (2-2 3.90 ERA) looks to make it two in a row against Jackson Sunday night.

High A—Brevard County 5, Daytona 2

Brevard County (20-15) completed the sweep of Daytona (10-24), handing the D-Cubs their sixth straight loss.

At the Dish: The offensive woes continued for Daytona as they only managed six hits..... Daytona finally got on the board in the seventh when Albert Almora (.243) reached on an infield single, stole second (3), and scored on Bijan Rademacher's double. Rademacher scored with two outs on an error on a grounder to short.......Rademacher finished the game with two hits to up his average to .340....Daniel Vogelbach (.239) went 1-4 with a double.

On the Hill: Jose Rosario (2-3 3.51 ERA) went five innings and only gave up one earned run but an error and a homer led to three unearned runs. He fanned two, walked three and gave up six hits.....Zach Cates tossed two scoreless frames with two punchouts and Andrew McKirahan allowed a homer in two innings in his team-leading 10th game.

D-Cubs Notes: In an interview with D-Cubs broadcaster Robbie Aaron, Zeke DeVoss said he has given up switch-hitting and will now concentrate on hitting strictly right-handed. He said he needs to learn how to hit right-handed pitching, and then hopes to get promoted back to Tennessee..........Daytona has Sunday off and host Charlotte for a four-game series.

Low A—Kane County 2, Burlington 1—11 innings

For the second straight night, Jordan Hankins delivered the game-wining RBI with a two-out single in the 11th.

At the Dish: Cougars tied the game in the sixth on Will Remillard's RBI single, plating Daniel Lockhart (.258), who singled, took second on Benjamin Carhart's groundout, and scored on the hit.......Carlos Penalver (.242) led off the 11th with a single, went to second on Lockhart's sacrifice, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Hankins' game-winner.......Lockhart and Remillard (.367) both finished with two hits......Burlington turned a triple play in the 4th as Remillard lined out with Lockhart and Carhart running on the pitch........

On the Hill: Paul Blackburn gave up a run on five hits and a walk in five innings. He fanned two and lowered his ERA to 2.97.......Kane County's bullpen was lights out. Jose Arias (0-1 1.72 ERA) tossed three perfect innings, setting six Bees down on strikes.......James Pugliese (1-0 0.73) earned his first win with three no-hit innings. He fanned seven and hit a batter.......The Cougars pitchers set 15 Bees down on strikes.

Cougars Notes: Kane County has Sunday off and head to Beloit on Monday for a three-game series.
