Cubs June 5 Minor League Recap

Kane County reduced their magic number down to two with their second straight twin over Clinton. Jordan Hankins paced the offense with two hits and two RBI. Wes Darvill's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth gave Daytona the walk-off win while Iowa and Tennessee both struggled at the plate in their losses.

Roster Moves, News, Notes

RHP Corey Black has been placed on the seven-day disabled list for Tennessee.....OF Josh Vitters and RHP Marcos Mateo have been activated from the DL at Iowa and IF Jonathan Mota and RHP Eduardo Figueroa have been assigned to Tennessee. .......RHP Justin Amlung was promoted from Kane County to Daytona and RHP Josh Davis was promoted from extended spring training to Kane County for the second time this year.....Trevor Graham has been sent back to extended spring training from Daytona......Zach Cates has been promoted from Daytona to Tennessee and former MLB pitcher Joel Pineiro has been released from Tennessee..

AAA—Colorado Spring 6, Iowa 2

Iowa dropped the opening game of the series as Colorado Spring snapped a three-game losing streak to the I-Cubs.

At the Dish: Arismendy Alcantara hit his 8th homer, a sole shot in the sixth, and added a single in four trip to plate....Iowa only had six hits and Christian Villanueva had a double, his 17th.

On the Hill: Kyle Hendricks (6-4 3.90 ERA) continues to struggle against the Sky Sox, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks with five punchouts. He threw 93 pitches and allowed a homer....Marcos Mateo, Yoanner Negrin and Jeffry Antigua all pitched an inning of relief.


AA—Jacksonville 6, Tennessee 0

Two Jacksonville pitchers held the Smokies to four hits as Tennessee was shutout for the fifth time.

At the Dish: Smokies had three extra base hits, including two doubles from Jonathan Mota, but were 0-6 with runners ins coring position. Elliot Soto also doubled and Kris Bryant added a single.

On the Hill: Julio Rodriguez had command issues as the right-hander walked six and gave up five runs in four innings. He threw 86 pitches, only 50% for strikes and fanned three.....Tony Zych and Lendy Castillo both threw two innings of relief.


High A—Daytona 5, Jupiter 4

Wes Darvill's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth scored Albert Almora for the walk-off win.

At the Dish: D-Cubs had 11 hits and walked five times but were shutout until four runs in the seventh. Jeimer Candelario slugged his fifth homer, a solo shot in the 7th, singled and walked....Almora, Daniel Vogelbach, and Marco Hernandez all had two hits while Pin-Chieh Chen and Vogelbach knocked in runs.

On the Hill: Felix Pena only lasted four innings but fanned seven in four shutout frames. He allowed three hits and waked four.......Austin Reed surrendered three runs in the sixth on three walks and two hits......Zack Godley had one of his best outings in the FSL, getting thew in. He pitched the finals 3.2 innings and finished with a line of 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1BB, 3 K. D-Cubs pitchers fanned 11.


Low A—Kane County 7, Clinton 3

Kane County reduced their magic number to 2, with their second straight win over Clinton.

At the Dish: Cougars pounded Clinton pitching for 11 hits and four walks as nine different players got hits.......All-Star third baseman Jordan Hankins was 2-4 with a pair of RBI (24).....Jacob Hannemann was 2-4 with a RBI and scored twice while Carlos Penalver went 1-4 with a RBI....Jacob Rogers double, walked twice and scored and after hitting. 200 in the April, has his average up to .250.

On the Hill: Tyler Skulina (4-2 2.93 ERA) only allowed two hits in six innings as the right hander picked up the win. He surrendered three runs, two earned, walked three and fanned five.......Michael Wagner had his second straight solid outing, working three scoreless frames for this first save. He allowed three hits, walked one and had one punchout.

Dominican Summer League—Cubs 3, Phillies 2

Santiago Rodriguez tossed six innings of one-hit ball to lead the Cubs (4-1) to a victory over the Phillies (1-4)

At the Dish: Cubs were just 1-14 with RISP but scored three times on five hits.....Miguel Ruiz was 2-3 with run scored while Jose Paniagua (1-4 2B) and Richard Nunez both knocked in runs.....Frandy Delarosa was 1-4 with a run scored.

On the Hill: Rodriguez only surrendered a single in six innings. He fanned one and got 12 ground ball outs.....Assail Aquino got his first hold and Aneuris Rosario picked up his first save.
