Going to give you a quick recap of Saturday's games instead of the more detailed account with stats and other team news. Will be getting draft stories out later today and tomorrow with detailed information on picks 11-40. After the draft has been recapped, I'll have some stories on Kane County including interviews with Manager Mark Johnson, pitching coach David Rosario, a few players, and inside info on Kane County's six-man rotation.
Roster Moves, News, Notes
Cubs second-round pick Jake Stinnett got the start in Maryland's first game of the Super Regional against Virginia, a lineup that featured five players taken in first 10 rounds. Centerfield Charles White may a diving playing the first inning to get the Terps out of a jam—the Cubs drafted him in round 21. Stinnett got the victory in the 5-4 win, finishing with a line of 6IP, 6H, 3R, 2ER, 3BB, 2K—117 pitches, 69 for strikes.
AAA—Colorado Springs 5, Iowa 1
Iowa only had four hits and scored their only run on Javier Baez's RBI single in the third. Eric Jokisch took the loss but didn't have that bad of an outing, allowing three runs in seven innings with six punchouts. Zac Rosscup made a rehab appearance and worked a 1-2-3 inning with a pair of strikeouts.
AA—Tennessee 5, Jacksonville 0
Dae-Eun Rhee worked seven shutout innings and Kris Bryant slugged his 20th homer in the win. Rhee allowed five hits in the 79-pitch gem with two walks and a strikeout. Bryant continues to show he's the best player in the Southern League as he continues to lead the lead in almost every offensive category including the triple crown. Bryant finished 3-3 and Charlie Cutler hit his second homer, doubled and ended the night with 3 RBI.
High A—Jupiter 8, Daytona 0
D-Cubs got blanked on three hits as the Hammerheads ended Daytona's five-game winning streak. LHP Nathan Dorris took the loss, allowing two runs on six hits in 4.2 innings. Jasvir Rakkar, promoted from extended spring training, made his FSL debut, giving up two runs in the eighth.
Low A—Kane County 5, Cedar Rapids 2
After further review, the Cougars didn't clinch on Friday night, they did on Saturday. With a win to improve to 42-20. Juan Paniagua continues to get better and with his stuff, that's scary. The right-hander with the fastball that can touch the upper 90s, fanned a career-high nine in six shutout innings. Benjamin Carhart slugged his first homer and was 2-4 with two runs scored. Cael Brockmeyer knocked in a pair.
Venezuelan Summer League—Rays 4, Cubs 2
Cubs fell to the Rays and dropped to 7-14. Luis Ayala was 2-3 with a run and a RBI. Enrique De Los Rio took the loss allowing eight hits and three runs.
Dominican Summer League—Cubs
Cubs played Blue Jays but there were no results filed, which means the game may have been rained out. If results become available I'l post.
