AAA—Iowa 6, El Paso 2
Kris Bryant hit a two-run homer in his AAA debut to help lead Iowa to the 6-2 win.
At the Dish: Kris Bryant was hitless in his first three at-bats—a strikeout and two fly outs—but that was all forgotten when he launched the ball over the right field wall in the 7th. After committing three errors in his pro debut in Mesa and going 0-5 with five strikeouts in his Northwest League debut for Boise, Bryant has homered in his debuts in Daytona, Mesa in the Arizona Fall League, Tennessee, and now Iowa. It was his 23rd homer of the season.......Josh Vitters (.232) was 2-4 with a RBI and Chris Valaika (.295) had two hits and knocked one in........Arismendy Alcantara went 2-5 and swiped his 15th base while Javier Baez was 1-3 with a walk and a stolen base (13).
On the Hill: Tsuyoshi Wada improved to 7-4, fanning seven, as he worked into the seventh. Wada threw 104 pitches, allowed a solo homer, and finished with a line of 6.2 IP, 4H, 2ER, 2BB 7K.......Yoanner Negrin picked up his first save, getting the final seven outs. He allowed two hits, walked one and fanned four.
I-Cubs Notes: Kyle Hendricks (7-5 3.78 ERA) takes the mound for his 14th start on Friday night.
AA—Tennessee 4, Chattanooga 3
Christian Villanueva celebrated his return to AA with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth.
At the Dish: Rubi Silva led the 12-hit attack with three hits and two RBI, including a homer off former Smokies' teammate Nick Struck....Stephan Bruno went 2-3 with a RBI and scored the winning run. Villanueva, sent from Iowa back to AA, had two hits, including the game-winner.
On the Hill: Smokies used six pitchers as Dae-Eun Rhee held the Lookouts to one run over six innings and was in line to get the win. He allowed four hits and fanned one....Jeffrey Lorick surrendered a solo homer in the seventh and Zach Cates finished off the inning with a pair of strikeouts. Tony Zych pitched a scoreless 8th, his fourth straight outing without allowing a run (5.1 IP). ....Hunter Cervenka got charged with a blown save giving up a run in the ninth.......Frank Batista fanned the final two hitters in the ninth and got the win.
Smokies Notes: Matt Loosen (3-2 5.17 ERA) gets his 12th start on Friday night.
High A—Daytona 7, Chattanooga 4
Daytona opened the second half with a 7-4 win over Brevard County.
At the Dish: Daniel Vogelbach went 3-5 and blasted his sixth homer, a solo shot in the first......Albert Almora went 2-5 while Willson Contreras was 1-4 with a two-run double in the seventh to put the D-Cubs ahead...Gioskar Amaya went 1-3 with a RBI and a walk...Daytona was 5-13 with RISP.
On the Hill: After 12 starts of allowing only one earned run or less, Felix Pena got roughed up for the second straight outing. He allowed four runs on seven hits an three walks in 3.1 innings......Starling Peralta was perfect as the right-hander retired all 14 hitters he faced. He earned the win and fanned four, getting seven ground ball outs.......All-Star left-hander Andrew McKirahan finished off the Manatees in the ninth for his sixth save.
D-Cubs Notes: Nathan Dorris (2-3 5.96) makes his fifth start as the two-game series to open the second half moves back to the Jack.
Low A—Kane County 7, Cedar Rapids 0—5 innings
After the first eight Kane County hitters were retired, the Cougars delivered eight-straight two-out hits in the third to win rain shortened game.
At the Dish: LF Kyle Schwarber's MWL debut was heightened with a former Hoosier teammate on the mound for the Kernals' as Aaron Slegers retired the first eight hitters he faced. Trey Martin tripled and then Jacob Hannemann hit an inside-the-park homer down the right field line as he circled the bases after the outfielder fell. Carlos Penalver kept it going with a single, stole second, and took third on a throwing error by the catcher. Schwarber collected his first MWL hit, a RBI single to right, scoring Penalver. A wild pitch moved Schwarber to second and he took third on Benjamin Carhart's single. Yasiel Balaguert provided the sixth straight two-out hit with a RBI single. Jacob Rogers added a run-scoring double and Danny Lockhart capped off the inning with a RBI single. Hannemann added a single in the fourth and after the first two hitters were retired in the bottom of the fifth, the game was called due to rain.
On the Hill: Daury Torrez didn't know when he retired the side in order in the fifth that would be the night for him but the right hander-improved to 7-3. He only allowed three hits and didn't walk anyone. The 21-year-old recorded eight ground ball outs and fanned one.
Cougars Notes: Cougars look to make it two straight as they send Juan Paniagua (3-3 3.25 ERA) to the mound on Friday night.
Short-Season—Eugene 8, Boise 7—11 innings
A throwing error allowed Boise to tie the game in the ninth but Eugene got the walk-off win in the 11th.
At the Dish: Justin Marra hit his third homer and finished 2-for-6 with three RBI and three runs.....Kevin Brown had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and scored three times. David Bote was 1-4 with a RBI.
On the Hill: Tyler Ihrig made his second start and fanned seven in six innings. The left-hander gave up four runs on six hits and walk......Josh Davis gave up three runs in the seventh but all of the runs were unearned. Yomar Morel, Carlos Llano and Alberto Diaz all tossed a scoreless frame. Diaz gave up three hits and a walk in the 11th.
Hawks Notes: Erick Leal makes his second start on Friday night as the Hawks look to salvage the final game of the series.
Venezuelan Summer League—Tigers 8, Cubs 6
Tigers scored two runs in top of ninth to tie the game and then won it with pair in the 13th.
At the Dish: Cubs had 14 hits, three coming off the bat of Henrry Pedra (.284) as he doubled, tripled, had two RBI and scored twice. Humberto Garcia (.264), Danny Gutierrez (.143) and Miguel Rico (.250) all had two hits.
On the Hill: Cubs used six pitchers but still couldn't get the job done. Enrique De Los Rio allowed a run in four innings in the start and and Eugenio Palma followed with 2.1 shutout frames. Jesus Arias was charged with three runs without recording an out. After allowing two inherited runs to score, Julio Sanchez finally got out of the seventh but gave two runs in the ninth. Alfredo Colorado worked three scoreless frames but Salvador Jerez walked three and gave up two runs in the 13th.
Dominican Summer League—Cubs 12, Pirates 6
Cubs had 15 hits as Jose Paniagua was 4-5 with a homer and 4 RBI.
At the Dish: Paniagua (.291) was a triple short of the cycle as he hit his second homer, a two-run shot. Robert Garcia (.294) went 3-5 with three runs and a RBI while Luis Ubiera (.200) had two doubles and knocked in one. Jenner Emeterio (.282) was 2-6 and Carlos Jimenez (.311) knocked in a pair with a double.
On the Hill: Oscar De La Cruz tossed five scoreless frames to lower his ERA to 0.43 and improve to 3-0.The 19-year-old right-hander has a BAA of .171 in 21.1 innings and only allowed one earned run.......18-year-old Andri Rondon made his pro debut allowing two runs on two hits and a pair of walks. He fanned three and worked 1.2 innings.....Jeffry Hernandez surrendered four runs in 1.1 innings and Chris Pieters tossed a scoreless ninth.

Iowa's Christian Villanueva along with relief pitchers Jeffry Antigua and Frank Batista have been sent to AA Tennessee to make room for the promotions of Kris Bryant, Armando Rivero and Arodys Vizcaino........Kane County 3B Jordan Hankins was promoted to Daytona and 3B Jeimer Candelario was sent back to Kane County.
