Jeffrey Baez delivered a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 10th to give the Hawks the victory and move within a game of first-place Hillsboro.
At the Dish: Jeffrey Baez (.288) had the game winner, one of three singles on the night, as the outfielder extended his hitting streak to 18 games. Mark Malave (.278) gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead in the sixth with a two-run double and Charlie White’s (.225) squeeze bunt in the 8th tied the game. In the 10th, Chesny Young (.423) singled and took second after a walk to Malave. After a balk moved the runners up 90 feet and led to the ejection of the Spokane manager, Baez delivered the game winning hit to left field past a drawn in infield. Rashad Crawford (.325) was 2-5 to extend his hit streak to 16 games. Malave and Young both had two hits and Young walked twice to up his OBP to .516 in eight games.
On the Hill: Erick Leal (3-2, 4.23 ERA) was solid for six innings, yielding a run on two hits. He fanned a season-high five batters and got seven ground ball outs in his sixth start....Ryan Williams (0-0, 0.00 ERA) worked two innings but got charged with a blown save after an unearned run scored to tie the game at 2-2. He fanned two in his second NWL appearance........Sam Wilson’s (1-0, 1.80 ERA) wild pitch in the top of the ninth allowed the tying run to score from third and he was handed his first blown ave. The left-hander worked two frames, fanned five, and earned the win.
Dominican Summer League—Rangers II 8, Cubs 7
Rangers tied the game in the bottom of the eighth and then won on a walk-off single in the ninth.
At the Dish: Cubs collected 14 hits as leadoff hitter Roberto Caro (.279) was 2-4 with his third homer and four RBI. Yohan Matos (.323) had three hits, including a double and his 4th homer. Jose Paniagua (.297) was 2-4 with A RBI. Luis Ubiera (.211), Frandy Delarosa (.252) and Franklin Tineo (.200) all had two hits.
On the Hill: Jose Morel got the start and went four innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks. Junior Marte gave up a run in two frames and Aneuris Rosario got charged with a blown save, giving up the tying run in the eighth. Jeffry Hernandez took the loss getting two outs before the game-winning hit.
