AAA—Iowa 11, Oklahoma City 8
Iowa scored six runs in the 8th to rally for the win.
At the Dish: RF Ryan Kalish (.241) hit a three-run homer in the 8th as part of his three-hit, four-RBI game. C Rafael Lopez (.285) had three hits and 3B Jonathan Mota (.263) went 2-for-5 with three RBI. 2B Andrew Ely (.219) doubled in a pair of runs and 1B Eli Whiteside (.204) got the 8th started with a solo homer. DH Kris Bryant (.296) was 1-3 and was hit by a pitch after the Kalish homer.
On the Hill: Dan Straily (7-8, 4.42 ERA) got tagged with seven runs on eight hits and three walks. He fanned six in the 92-pitch outing and gave up a pair of homers. Alberto Cabrera (3.29 ERA) tossed two scoreless innings of relief and Marcos Mateo (3-0, 3.86 ERA) allowed a run in over the final two frames to earn the victory.
I-Cubs Notes: Iowa ends the 2014 season on Monday and a starter hasn’t been named.
AA—GAME 1—Chattanooga 9, Tennessee 0; GAME 2—Chattanooga 3, Tennessee 2
Chattanooga swept Tennessee and clinched the Southern League North Division.
At the Dish: GAME 1—1B Lars Anderson (.325) had two hits, CF Albert Almora (.243) singled and C Taylor Davis (.321) doubled as the Smokies were held to four hits in the opener. Game 2—Pierce Johnson’s two-run single, his first pro hit, gave the Smokies a 2-1 lead in the 4th. 3B Christian Villanueva (.248) singled twice and 2B Anthony Giansanti (.239) was on base twice and scored.
On the Hill: GAME 1—C.J. Edwards (1-2, 2.44 ERA) struggled with his command on Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks. He fanned one and threw 80 pitches, only 42 for strikes, in four innings. Jeffrey Lorick surrendered five runs in 1.1 innings and Lendy Castillo got the final two outs. GAME 2—Pierce Johnson (5-4, 2.49 ERA) allowed a solo homer in the third and after a leadoff walk in the sixth, left the game. Johnson finished with a line of 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 B, 5K. Blake Cooper got charged with the blown save and took the loss, allowing a single and a two-run triple in the sixth.
Smokies Notes: Tennessee closes out the 2014 campaign on Monday at Chattanooga.
High A—Daytona 6, Tampa 3
Daytona used a five-run fifth to down Tampa in the season finale.
At the Dish: D-Cubs batted around in the first with 1B Daniel Vogelbach (.268), 3B Benjamin Carhart (.340), SS Wes Darvill (.257) and 3B Jordan Hankins (.218) all driving in runs. Darvill finished 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. Carhart, LF Rock Shoulders (.223) and 2B Gioskar Amaya (.276) all had two hits.
On the Hill: Justin Amlung (4-4, 4.37 ERA) got the start and allowed a solo homer over five innings. He gave up three hits and fanned one. Juan Paniagua allowed two runs while Nathan Dorris (1 IP, 1K), Jose Rosario (1 IP, 1K) and Gerardo Concepcion (1 IP) kept the Yankees off the board.
D-Cubs Notes: Daytona hosts the first game of the FSL North Division title against first-half winner Dunedin on Tuesday night. Daytona finished the season at 67-69, going 26-42 in the first half but ended with a 41-27 record in the second half.
Low A—Kane County 9, Peoria 2
Three Kane County pitchers held Peoria to three hits to notch their 91st win of the season.
At the Dish: Cougars pounded out 13 hits including Cael Brockmeyer’s 8th homer of the season. The Kane County backstop finished 2-for-5 with two runs and upped his average to .295. SS Carlos Penalver (.214) and LF Shawon Dunston (.268) had two hits and plated two runs while RF Mark Zagunis (.261) and 1B Jacob Rogers (.267) added two hits each. 2B Daniel Lockhart (.287), 3B Chesny Young (.317) and DH Yasiel Balaguert (.251) all knocked in a run.
On the Hill: Ben Wells (4-0, 2.23 ERA) surrendered two runs and got the win despite allowing six walks and a homer in five innings. Michael Heesch (2.18 ERA) fanned six in three frames and Francisco Carrillo (1.35 ERA) worked a 1-2-3 ninth.
Cougars Notes: Cougars end the regular season on Monday with Peoria and then head to Appleton for the first game of the playoffs with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Wednesday.
Short-Season—Salem-Keizer 4, Boise 3—10 innings
Salem-Keizer tied the game in the 9th and won it in the 10th.
On the Hill: Trevor Clifton (3.69 ERA) surrendered one run over five innings, giving up three hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Ryan McNeil (8.44 ERA) was charged with an unearned run in two frames and Josh Davis (6.62 ERA) tossed a scoreless eighth. Trey Lang (2-1, 4.89 ERA) gave up an unearned run in the ninth and allowed the winning run to score in the 10th on a wild pitch. Lang walked four and threw three wild pitches.
Hawks Notes: Boise closes out the regular season on Monday with Josh Conway taking the mound for his 13th start. The Hawks host Hillsboro in the opening game of the NWL playoffs on Tuesday night.
